ok friends....here is a good one for you...
my dear friend claudia (like a daughter to me) is getting married in nyc july 31 and will be at secret harbour in st thomas for a week honeymoon..

we want to do something nice as a gift to be there when they get there like maybe a dinner in the hotel (we can call the desk for that i guess) or a romantic cruise i can pay for ahead of time or
flowers or something brought to the room...anyone local know of a nice place that will make up something to put in the room? flowers and a fruit or food basket?
several of us want to go in on a few things because we know they are not going to have a lot to spend there....
i was thinking a dinner at mafolie....

any ideas welcome!!!! wish we could go with them hahaaa lolol

You might check with Ali at East End Flower Shop-340-779-2619, www.eastendflowershop.net for flowers. Randy's does wine (champagne?) and goodie baskets 340-775-5001, although not sure about delivery?

How nice of you to do something like that... I had a few thoughts... a full day sail to the BVI... we went on the New Horizon II (included Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Guana Island and lunch at Marina Cay) in June and it was great and there were two couples on their honeymoon... it's intimate, only takes 18 people max... costs around $130'ish including the $20 customs fee (they will need a passport)... this would be something they would remember always and they would be getting to see the other islands.
Another thing you might want to keep in mind... if you do give them a dinner and if it is in town... be sure to include the taxi fare.. that can chew away at the budget! I hope they have perfect weather... !

How about matching hook bracklets (wider for him) with their wedding date engraved on the inside? Kind of spendy, but would really be nice if several of you are going in together. Marty would probably even give you a deal!!

Hi Cindy, I'm not really "barefoot" or a "bubba", but I do live in Atlanta right now. Still dreaming of moving to STX one day. Glad you liked the idea. That is what I'm going to get my fiance for a personal wedding gift. We plan to be married in Sept. and thought I would share the thought with Ginger. Do you live in the South as well?

Do you have a photo of these bracelets and where they can be purchased with engravings on them?

Jill, I'm sure that you would have to find a place or jeweler that does engraving and take them there. That's not hard to find here in Atlanta. Don't know about the VI, but with the talented jewelers on island, I wouldn't think it would be difficult. Marty, any suggestions???

Hi, Ginger!

Can't believe I decided to pop in on the site & here you are, too!

You have gotten some awesome suggestions! We, like you, loved our dinner at Mafolie. And I concur with the New Horizons II recommendation for the full day BVI trip - it was probably one of the best days of our trip. (& it may be something that they might have avoided - due to the cost).

But, I think I am going to agree with the Hook Bracelet recommendation. I bought an absolutely gorgeous one right in Red Hook at a gift shop called Dolphin Dreams (it is across the street from Duffy's Love Shack). She had tons of different designs & I got one where the "hook/clasp" part was heart-shaped. I actually got a silver band with a gold heart. (They had tons of different hook designs) I absolutely love mine! And the best part is that everytime I wear it, I remember where I got it.

I love having a lasting piece of the islands.

No matter what you choose, how lucky that couple is to have such wonderful friends who are planning such a lovely surprise.

I am jealous, too!!

Speak to ya later,
Your old SH buddy, Sue

Hi, Ginger!

Just me again. I am still thinking about the hook bracelet idea. I love the idea for her - but, not sure if "a guy" would like it. (I know that my husband probably would not wear a "bracelet")

So, don't know if anyone else has any other jewelry or keepsake idea for the man??

I could be way off base and he would "love it" - guess it depends on the guy!

A sunset cruise just for two would be awesome, too. How can you go wrong with any suggestion?

How long will they be on the island? Are they staying at SH for the whole stay??

On another note - I am having USVI withdrawal and am wondering if we can make it back during the last week in April in 2006. Since Jim works in the school system, this is the best time for us. Am toying with the idea of a B&B or villa for 4-5 nites on St. John (to get a better feel of that island) - then 3-4 nites back at our home base of Secret Harbour. Any suggestions??

Sue

Hi Sue,

I think you are right, not every guy would wear a bracelet. I used to wear one, and liked it, and especially if it was a special gift with a special meaning, I would definately wear one again. I noticed that a lot of the men on the islands DO wear them, and it kind of adds to the "island mistique". Another thing that I've noticed, is that when you are back on the mainland, you immediately recognize a hook bracelet that someone might be wearing; and with a single comment, "Oh, where'd you get YOUR hook bracelet", you suddenly begin to exchange memories and experiences from past trips to the VI.

AND, one other thing... with the wedding date engraved on the inside, there is NO excuse to forget your ANNIVERSARY!! LOL

To set a romantic mood (as if being in the Caribbean weren't romantic enough LOL!), you might want to consider getting them one of the candles made by Jason, a local craftsperson. The name of his business is Caribbean Herbals, and I guess you can find him either on this site or by googling. He's got lovely seashell candles.

I found your story about how you got a great bracelet at Dolphin Dreams. I just wanted to say thank you for the good advertising, and to let you know that we have a web store now. If any one you know needs a hook bracelet, you can find them online at www.DolphinDreamsVI.com . Also, if you let me know via email that you are the one that was telling people about us, we'll give you an extra 10% off.

Thanks, and I'm glad that we could help you find a great St. Thomas souveneir.
