If we take the last 11pm ferry from St. John to St. Thomas/Red Hook will there be taxis available to take us back to the condo? We want to enjoy a little nightlife in St. John.

If we take the 6:30am ferry from Red Hook over to St. John will there be a taxi to take us to Maho Bay that early? We need to get to Maho by 8:30am to catch a boat trip.

Do you have to make arrangements with someone in advance for such late and early trips or are taxis available after each ferry that has run?
Thank you.

kraus: If you know you are going to be on that last ferry, ask the taxi man where you are staying to arrange a pick up, just to be sure.

We are not staying at a resort we are renting a condo from a private owner. I think she is the "taxi woman" and I would not want to bother her for a ride at 11:30pm. She probably knows somebody though.

Hello Kraushaus,

There are typically a few taxis lined up at the Red Hook shopping center parking lot in the late evenings/nights waiting for bar hoppers and dinner guests at the various bars/restaurants in that area. While I can't remember ever taking the 11pm ferry back to STT I suspect there will be a couple taxis there. If not you could walk accross the street to the Red Hook Shopping parking lot area. Better idea, if you want to make sure a taxi is there for you, would be to get a taxi driver's number/business card, perhaps one you use the same day to get to the ferry dock and ask them whether you could call them before leaving St. John and the time you'd be calling so that they can be waiting for you on the St. Thomas end. You could also get the taxi dispatch number and do the same - call ahead before boarding the ferry.

Not sure on the St. John end, early taxis - Anyone have experience on that?

If you are at a condo that rents out to people, there will usually be some taxi group who is assigned to that complex. I came back on the last ferry once (a long while ago, to be sure) and there were NO taxis waiting. It is a bit scary, which is why I thought you should have something lined up. 😉
