I have vacationed in St. John in December for the past 4 years. I'm considering going July 1-15 this year. I know hurricane season will have officially started but I'm wondering about the likelihood of running into bad weather in July? Anyone have comments/experiences to share? Thanks!

Our favorite past visits were always June and July. I realize that the weather is unpredictable but have never had any problems at all with hurricane season. It tends to still be a bit early at that time of summer for the bad weather.

I'm an annual June/July visitor. Last visit was June 30 - July 14, 2005. Never had a threat of any kind of weather system while there. Last trip there was a bad storm one night - power knocked out for a bit. That was the only bad experience and it was late anyway, so I enjoyed it. It was over by early morning.

The only thing I complain about with summer visits is the humidity - whoa! It sometimes feels soooooo hot. (as I sit here in the Northeast cold - that humidity sounds pretty good right about now)

We've visited in mid-July on three occasions and love it. In our experience, it tends to be pretty dry; maybe an occasional shower for a few minutes, but nothing major. Another benefit - we have never noticed any biting insects (mosquitos, noseeums, etc) in July. And you can't beat the off-season prices!

That should be a good time of year. We have gone in August and early September and as you know -- that's about the time the big ones hit the states. We have dodged a bullet many times in September. You should be fine.

It will be hotter and more humid, so you might want to insist on AC if you're renting a villa. And maybe a pool. The good news is the beaches and everyplace else will be less crowded.

We have been lucky the last few years. I do remember hurricane Bertha. It hit early July 1998 (give or take a year or so)

Thanks to everyone who replied. Your input and experiences were very helpful. I've decided to try it - June 24-July 8. I'm prepared for the humidity (and found a house with air conditioned bedrooms). Hopefully, I won't need to prepare for a hurricane! 🙂

We were there from for a week at the beginning of July this year. The weather was great. Be sure to go to the parade in Cruz Bay on July 4th. We stayed in a cottage on the hillside over Fish Bay and never used the air conditioning in our bedroom. The ceiling fan was enough. We like being able to hear the sounds outdoors.

We are going June 24, 06. We have heard the same thing, great weather, perfect time to go. After being in the dry climate and drought of NM, we will appreciate the humidity & water. See ya at Willie T's!
