I am bringing my family to St. Johns in a month. We went to Jamaica in February and had several people attempt to sell us pot. It was a big concern for myself and my family. Does this happen in St. Johns and is there a big drug problem?

I don't think you will be approahed in St. John like you were in Jamaica. Drugs are everywhere though.

RL

PS. It's St. John. no 'S'

St John is nothing like Jamacia 🙂 There are drugs available (so I hear) but I live on STJ and have never been approached - a good sign. You will be fine.

Yes it's true, drugs are everywhere , always have been. I noticed in both St. Thomas & St. John the folks with pot actually have a very polite way of asking if your interested...a tap on their shirt pocket as they ask " are you alright , mon ? " if you say your fine they simply move on. You won't have a problem while your there.

I've never been approached or signaled in the VI....not even the pocket tapping thing. Now I feel left out! Am I too "straight" looking to get the pocket tap? 😉

I would suggest that the people who get approached fit some stereotype of someone who might enjoy such things. Younger, hipper. (do they still say people are hip?)

Me? I'm old enough and square-enough looking that any drug dealer would be more likely to help me cross the street than offer drugs! LOL.

ISLANDER: Love the spell check.

Only several? We went to Jamaica about 4 years ago and we had to beat them off us, and like Bluwater and LindaJ (I'm guessing LOL) we look like pretty straight middle aged baby boomers. It was one of the major reasons we chose to never go back to Jamaica, real pain in the Butt. At one point I yelled at one of them "look, do I look like I use drugs because trust me I don't- never have, never will, now leave me alone!!" The guy never even batted an eyelash, just smiled and said "I have some nice jewelry I can show you"- I nearly decked him.

We've been to STJ 4 times going on 5 and have never had anyone, anywhere ask us to buy anything- with the exception of a tiny kid who tried to get us to buy a rotting coconut across from Mongoose Junction one day. He looked pretty bored and we must have looked like the middle age baby booming tourists that we areLOL. You will love St. John!

You can't compare Jamaica to St. John! Jamaica is known for the ganja! St. John isn't!

You're safe in St. John. But just like everyone else said, drugs are everywhere!

We've been to Jamaica twice and there's NO problem getting pot there. They basically will run after you to sell it. But, in such a poor place as Jamaica, I kind of understand that this is a way they make their money.

My daughter, who was only 14 at the time was asked 3 times to buy some pot. That I don't like. Although we had a good time in Jamaica it doesn't compare to St. Thomas or St. John.

I never smelled nor was I approached on either islands.

There are drugs on STJohn , just walk down the street in front of the former Duffy's and the little boys who sell it will smile and ask you if you need help. ( Iam a 42 white female) .tourist or no tourist they will ask you.

I must live in a bubble... never even THOUGHT about drug use while in St. John. Honestly, everyone was walking around and most of the restaurants were open air and since I DID go to high school in the 70's I know what pot smells like and surely I'd have caught that drift in the air around town in such a small community or noticed anyone looking like they were "up to sumthin" or approaching people... maybe not, I was pretty much on island time just relaxing on my own natural beach and rum high so I coulda missed a few things, haha!

Never saw or was approached about drugs of any kind. Although I too am of a certain age. You should have no problems in the Paradise that is STJ. Enjoy!

Sorry , let me rephrase my defintion of "little boys" Young men 16-25 yrs old . It is there , my kids are in that age range and they have shared the stories with me. But as far as tourist are concerned , they dont hound ,but they know who wants it , and dont really approach tourist, DRUGS are every where . worldwide . even on a tiny island. even one smaller than STJohn
