Does anyone have any thoughts on obtaining inexpensive air to Stt ???
Prices seem to be on the increase.
Thanks

I booked back in February for my June visit. I found a round-trip ticket for 384.00. I did the best through www.hotwire.com.

Best wishes!

The lowest fares I have seen were when I was using third party sites like Travelocity and doing a search where I say that my travel dates are flexible...If you want to get cheap airfare these days, I think you have to be flexible on dates...

It may also help to sign up for fare alerts on Travelocity, Yapta, Expedia, etc...

I'll second Travelocity and using the flexible dates option. We are flying down from Chicago next month for $241.00 per person round trip.

Direct flights will cost you extra. Your cheapest options out of the south will be Spirit or US Air. Price just depends on where your flying from.

I was able to get a non-stop flight from Boston to STT on AA for $270 a couple of months ago (for this coming December)...we paid a little over $400 two summers ago for a flight with a connection in Miami so I was thrilled with this price.

Where are you flying from, and when?

I found tickets cheaper direct through usairways than with expedia or the others but still crazy right now because of fuel prices!

No more direct flights from Newark NJ to STT, and the prices have skyrocketed. If this is a sign of things to come, tourism on the Island will be devastated. At $700 per round trip for a family of 4 - $2800 per family for airfare alone. Are they kidding? Gas prices certainly have not risen that much to justify more than doubling the price per person given 300 passengers on these jets, and the economy of scale. Let these moron airlines put themselves right out of business.

You are wrong Oceanman. Continental STILL flys direct from Newark. I have booked my june flight for 230 plus tax non stop. I just booked jan 6 2009 to April 1 for 280 plus tax, non stop.

The prices have increased. Also I have found NO LUCK with sites like travelocity. I go direct to the airline using the web.

Just found out that Continental only has direct flights from Newark to STT on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays now.

My apologies. I always jump to the assumption that people on this forum are going to the VI and not leaving them. I know what impact todays fares have on travel not necessarily tied to vacation.

billd,

Did you try the flexible date search with Travelocity? That's the only way that I can find the low rates. Does anyone know if you can fly standby from STT?

For me, Travelocity has always shows a price HIGHER than airline direct.

I use USAIR.

Play with dates - be flexible.

Good luck, I wouldn't use Travelocity - or Kayak - or Expedia, etc. My 2X yr travel from PHL to STT has shown me that these sites show higher fares than going direct through airline.

Another tip, when checking fares on the airline site, check fare for only ONE seat - not more. Often, the per person fare is higher for more than one person if you try to check them both at once. You might be able to book one person at the lowest fare and the second person at a slightly higher fare. If you check fares for TWO passengers, they will quote the higher fare for both. FYI.

Good luck.

Hi - We just booked a last-minute trip to St.John on the day you wrote your post! -and I got tix at $352 each, into STT from Washington Dulles (IAD), leaving less than a month later on May 21! (I just realized I couldn't be away from my snorkeling ANY LONGER! 3 years is just too long. lol) Which is now only 2 weeks away -Yaaay!! :@) ...Umm sorry... anyway.... got them on AmericanAirlines.com directly and found they had lowest prices -And had decided that later this year the fuel prices would go even higher so I'd better jump! I thought this was a pretty good deal considering that when we came last time I got the tickets for 320 -and that was in '05, and through AAA ! For anyone who's a AAA member look there for flight deals too -it's an often forgotten one. I've done Expedia in the past too and liked that -I was able to go into STT and out via St.Croix that way, and did all 3 islands. But I hate Travelocity, or unknown times like with Priceline. Best way and fastest way to find deals, is to go directly through the airline -But you can first go thru sites like Expedia and Kayak, etc. to get an idea of all the airlines that have flights you might be interested in, and then after that go to that airline itself! And do it sooner than later. It's not gonna get any cheaper!

t have tryed everything on those Travel Sites. I have never found a great deal on them. You can't get much better than 280 plus tax on a non stop flight. I use the variable date feature (3+,- days on contimental. Then look around and make my choice. US air has a similar feature. I wish that Spirit did, but it does not. So you need to advance a day at a time.

my attitude is if you get down to about where you can aford it then book it. it is not worth the time or the worry to save a few $$.

good luck.
