We are also looking for information on Island Horizons. It looks great (but up a steep, unpaved road!).

Any reviews out there?

Although not familiar with the villa specifically, I can vouch for Private Homes. Mary-Eileen & Mary-Phyllis are great to work with. If you call or e-mail them they will be very honest about the drive. If they made a point to post it on the site, you can be sure a 4WD is needed.

We just got back from a perfect week at this villa, and it is one of the best we've ever rented in the Caribbean. The road leading up to the house, and the driveway access, are every bit as steep and treacherous and they say, but the house and the views are sensational. It was our first visit to St. John and even though it was a drag to have to drive a distance to the beach we were glad we chose the "quiet side" of the island and Coral Bay.

Thanks for the feedback. We're really torn between the convenience of something closer to Cruz Bay (we really like to shop and have after dinner drinks at one of the bars) or the serenity of something like Island Horizon. We LOVE the photos of the villa, just not sure the long drive to do, really anything, is our cup of tea.

Thanks again!

Hi, We are staying at Island Horizons in just a couple weeks. Can you provide any more information about the place. Is the driveway really as bad as they say? We have been to St John a couple of times, and don't mind driving down to the beach, but it sounds almost treacherous! What kind of car did you all have?

Here's an additional site for that villa!

I doubt the driveway is that bad !! We have explored all over island and have never had a problem getting anywhere!!
We are also booked for this villa in December! 😎

I just put my "order" in for a week in February 2009! Please DO post a trip report and villa review once you've completed your week. It sounds just awesome for our 3 couples - lots of room, privacy, and gathering areas for evening fellowship. Though it's not really convenient, I'm sure the drive into Coral Bay (or Cruz Bay) isn't THAT far - the island just isn't that big!

Let us know what you think, please!

I know you were thinking of renting a car not a 4wd but on the Island Horizons website it states that a 4wd is a must - so if they say that you will need one 🙂

Didn't know if you had read that or not - better to be safe than sorry.

Pia - thanks for the reminder!

Yes - I got that information - the rental agent emailed me after my inquiry. We decided to go with this one even with the 4 wheel drive need. Can get a 4 wheel drive Durango from Budget for $600 for 8 days. Seats 6 and is still a pretty good value. Or - we can get 2 Jeeps from Dependable for around $800 total. We'll be okay and will have more fun this way!

Thanks again!

Please do!!! We turn-in our deposit in mid-July, so we still have time to reconsider if needed. PM me if you're not comfortable posting your true issues for the entire forum to see. I've got 2 "first timers" going with us, so the quality of the villa is super-important.

Thanks for your help, and...............

Good Luck! Have Fun!

Adele, how do you get to this villa? Is it in Coral Bay or on Bordeaux mountain? I'd love to hear more details.
