My husband and I are going to spend about 3 weeks in August and was looking for an affordable, nice, friendly place to stay. Any advice on Island View or any other places would be appreciated. Thank you

Have you been to STT before?
I have not stayed at Island View so I can't speak for this place. What drew you to those accommodations? This may help us in recommending places. I personally would rent a villa for that amount of time so I could have a kitchen for convenience. (villa doesn't always equal $$$).

For a three week stay I agree - you can find very nice accommodation where you have your own private unit and a full kitchen - and on a beach too. Have you looked at condos on www.vrbo.com? Take a look at Sapphire, Crystal Cove and Elysian for a start. The first two are on beautiful Sapphire Beach and only a five minute drive to Red Hook for restaurants and night life and the inter-island ferry. You can take a look at the webcam and a link to a wonderful aerial view here:

Be aware that if you rent a car from Hertz or Discount Car Rental they do not allow their vehicles on the car barge to STJ. Budget and Dependable Car do.
