I WANT MORE ADVENTURES! Haven't been around for a little bit and I've missed it! We took the kids to Disneyworld over Christmas and Honey wants me to book this 10 night cruise with my parents, and my sister and BIL for next year. I don't really like to cruise. I'm over it. We thought about a week in Tahiti for about a minute but it's sooo expensive that if we went there, it would just have to be Honey and I. Well, Honey and I like to travel with our kids and I don't like the thoughts of being that far away from them. Honestly, I don't know if I'd even be able to enjoy myself, I'd feel so guilty about not taking them.

All I need is more turqoise St. John. I could care less if I ever traveled anyplace else. It must be a sickness cause I can't stop thinking about it. Honey wants to do something else even though he loves STJ as much as I do. He just likes to try different experiences. How do I convince him that there is nowhere better on earth?

Chris - Forgive me for a potentially dumb question, but are you are woman or man? If you're a woman, and I can give you a bit of woman-to-woman advice - - there are ways of convincing your "honey" to do whatever you want 😉

Seriously, you need to sit down with honey and talk about spending money on experiences and places that are PROVEN. Why risk spending your hard-earned money on a vacation where you may or may not like it, a resort/villa that may be a dump, kids may not like it there, etc etc. St. John is a sure thing! There is such solace in the familiarity and nostalgia from visiting the same vacation spots. Not to mention the comrodarie of the posters on this board who are also addicted! Another approach would be that if you want to try something new - - book a day trip or two to visit Jost, Virgin Gorda, Tortola, Anegada, etc etc if you haven't been there already. This is the beauty of the VI's - - you are so close to so many other islands. You can't possibly have the same experiences there time after time. So much to see!!

Good luck Chris! Use all your powers of persuation! And if all else fails - - beg!

Chrisn - your post sounds like something I could have written almost verbatim (except that we did Disney in October and cruised last year). My strategy (which worked for the last two STJ trips) is to find a "deal that can't be passed up"; once it was a 3-BR villa on eBay ("deal of a lifetime", I said); another time I sold his friends on the idea and got a group of us to commit (how could he argue with that?). I'm trying to find another "deal" or similar method of persuasion... I know once the plans are in place he'll be as sold as I am - it's just getting him to agree. It doesn't help that our winter has been so mild either, does it?

Chris, I am staying in Villa Capiz in November. Would love to get your full take on the villa. Any pictures from your trip perhaps?

Hi Maybeth!

Did you read my trip report? I did an in-depth review of Villa Capiz after we returned. I have tons of pictures of the villa on a cd. I can e-mail some pics to you if I can get my daughter to help me later. They are all on a disk and I'm computer illiterate. If she can't help me do it, then I can do it at work on Monday. PM me your email address and I'll see what I can do. Any questions you have about it, I'd be glad to answer. I LOVE reminiscing!

Hi Chrisn,
I've been around the boards since before you trip and know your trip report. You must go back to St. John just so we can enjoy another lively report! I'm lucky...my husband has the STJ bug. We went in November and he readily agreed to go again in February. I'm so excited! 🙂

I have the same "sickness". My husband likes STJ too, but doesn't care to go there so often. He wants to try other places. I told him that I HAVE to go there once a year and he just laughs at me! He really doesn't think that I am serious, but I am ! I told him that he better come to STJ with me once a year or I will find someone else to go with.
He doesn't think I am serious about that either, but I am. I haven't found any other friend or family member who will come with me. I am taking my kids in June so I hope one of them will get my "sickness". 🙂

Hey Terri - it's you and me if the guys won't go. 😉 LOL!

I am in the same boat and trying desperately to find a villa or airfare bargain that can't be beat. If not, I'm getting my girlfriends together and we'll figure something out. I'm climbing the wall here!!! I SO get it!

Hi Chrisn. I'd love to see your pictures as well so I just sent you a PM with my email address. I also think you might be able to sell your husband with all the island hopping you can do and maybe with pictures of a villa you might be considering?

LOL! You guys have me smiling and laughing. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was ok for a while but now that I don't have travel plans set yet, I really have the travel bug and I'm just day dreaming of St. John all day. Can't stop thinking about it. I've been villa surfing for the last two days and nights! Honey is working out of town. I told him to call me last night cause I wanted to discuss my illness with him. He never called and I'm working myself up into a frenzy. I have my little guy-9 giving me his take on all the villas. He wants to stay at Coral Rays but I'm thinking it's too far out and UP for our needs. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I've googled this villa and found that you'd done a report-however-I can't find it. Can you share any info?

Hi Lisa,

If you do an All Dates Author search and type in chrisn, my reports along with all kinds of other funky stuff should populate. I believe the villa portion of the report was entitled "Villa Capiz-It's all about the view Baby!" or some such nonsense like that.

Oh by the way, Honey said "whatever makes you happy baby." Woo Hoo!!! I sugared him up right good over the phone. Now on with the villa search! Decisions, decisions!

Hey chrisn...CONGRATS on your accomplished mission!!!

After going on several Caribbean cruises, we had experienced many islands (we weren't the cruise passengers that just got off the ship to shop for jewelry or stupid, tacky t-shirts or other trinkets- we really did lots of interesting, exciting things where we really did get the true flavor of each island visited)... anyway, after all of them, we found STJ to be THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE WE'VE EVER SEEN. No need for another cruise in the Caribbean...or staying on another island 😉

That said, we do, however, LOVE to experience new places and now alternate something new and different with STJ. Last summer we opted for an Alaskan cruise which was spectacular - BUT it will certainly be stupendous when we return to STJ this May/June!!!! 😀

Congratulations Chrisn! I'm glad Honey came around! Good for you! Love the view your son picked -- Coral Rays looks beautiful. We stayed at Orion's Hill in November enjoying a similar view of Coral Bay, but higher on the mountain and towards the center of the island. The views were to die for, but we found that we are so active (coming and going from beaches, Cruz Bay, the smoothie stand...whatever) that the drive to and fro' became a little bit undesirable. Our pool was a little too chilly for us to hang at the house enough - so it seemed that we were constantly driving somewhere. I know from your trip report that your family likes to explore!! Maybe Coral Rays will benefit from being a little closer to Coral Bay, as opposed to smack in the middle of Centerline Road?

Chrisn,

Whatever makes you happy?

The answer is:

" A beachfront villa - on Peter Bay, Peterborg, or something very similar."

Lots of interest going over villa Capiz -- CJ should check out, including non-beachfront.
