Hey guys, we just booked a 10 day trip for villa in Coral Bay. I need to rent a Jeep, a few places still have them available.

Should I rent on St. John or on St. Thomas? Seems if you rent on St. John you can't take to other island, but if you rent on St. Thomas you can?

Anyone use Cool Breeze in St. John or Discount Car Rental in St. Thomas? Those so far only have availables

It is six of one, half dozen of the other if you ask me.

If you rent on STT, you will drive across the island and take the barge. The important thing to remember is, will it work for your flight arrival? If you are arriving after 5pm or leaving before 8am, it will likely not work. Too close to the last/first barge.
If you have a problem with the jeep, then you will have to figure out how to get it solved on your own, or in some cases, wait from someone to come over from STT. Not that problems are common, but it can be a concern for some people.

If you rent on STJ, you will take a taxi to the ferry and pick up your car on island. Depending on who you rent from, you may be able to park in their lot while in Cruz Bay, which is a big bonus since parking is at a premium. You will also have the peace of mind knowing that someone is just a phone call away should you have an issue.
You can not take your rental to STT, but this is only a problem if you intend to spend a lot of time there, which is not usually the case for STJ travelers.

In the past, we have rented on St. John, but this year was different. We rented through Amalie Car and they met us at the airport. The jeeps were in excellent condition (less than 5K miles) and the owners are awesome. I highly recommend using this company. We rather enjoyed being able to make our way to Red Hook at our own pace, hit a couple stores on our way and enjoyed the ferry ride. The owners then met us at the airport to drop the jeep off before our return flight. I cannot say enough good things about them. Check out their cars at www.amaliecar.com!

We like Cool Breeze on St. John. Have probably used them the last 5 times. Always treat us well.

I would second what Rose said. We have used Cool Breeze a couple of times and they are great to deal with. They are conveniently located in Cruz Bay very close to the ferry dock.

We rent on St John from St John Car Rental each year. Everyone has their own preference, but I would rather not drive on St Thomas and have to work my schedule around the car barge.
