We're staying at Concordia in January and getting a 2-door Wrangler for the week. I'd like some more suggestions on Jeep rental places. Conrad doesn't work, they don't offer after hours pick up (we get to STJ around 7pm). We're probably gonna go with L&L, but we'd like to be able to take the top off. I can sorta understand why some don't let you, but what fun is a jeep if you're enclosed?

I noticed here that Delbert Hill's doesn't give a hoot about taking the top off, but they don't answer their phone and an email bounced back.

Called Courtesy, and they were courteous and do offer after hours pickup, but don't allow top removal.

So...Conrad Sutton, Courtesy, C&C, L&L, St. John Car Rental, and probably more do NOT allow soft top removal.

Will anyone let me feel the wind in my hair?!

This thread I found from a year ago has some more discussion, but doesn't look like anyone figured anything out.

I did notice this, which is a bit discouraging.

We rented a Wrangler in STJ from L&L. We were not allowed to take the soft top off, nor were we allowed to unzip the windows. In fact, the windows had been stitched shut around the zipper. What we were allowed to do, however, is take the front windows out completely. I found it a bit confusing, unless mangled/dysfunctional window zippers are more of a hassle than wet jeeps?

If someone could perhaps just suggest a different company not mentioned above that I might call.

Thank you!

Well it looks like this topic has been covered extensively. Obviously too many people were damaging the tops so no one really allows it anymore.

I spoke w/ Courtesy and they were very courteous. And Don at Bougainvillea Leasing was very friendly.

We always rent from Budget at the airport and take the car barge so we can have the top down. 😉

Rent a four door hard top Wrangler. The roof sections over the front two seats are easily removed and the windows all roll down. This is easier than a soft top any day. And in a day or two when you get tired of taking it off and putting it back you can roll up the windows and turn on the A/C in the jeep. 🙂

Another consideration which has probably already been covered in the link provided earlier is that a rain shower can come and go VERY fast but will immediately drench everything if you have the top off. You and your belongings will immediately be soaked and then, just as you have the top back up the sun will be out blazing again!

Try Dependable at the STT airport. Used them in January w/no problems and we were able to take the top off. Of course, we were considerate in putting it back up when we left the vehicle in case of rain.

Thanks, but we can't rent from STT due to our late arrival. Car barge doesn't run very late.
