You are better off rent a jeep in cruz bay. The fleet at the rental company at the westin is in horable shape. I rented from them twice in the past two years and and both jeeps where garbage. Plus if you rent in town you can park at the rental place there making life much easier.

Hmmm. I rented a little Suzuki Vitara from Cool Breeze Rentals just a block away from the ferry dock. This poor jeep had been rode HARD and put up wet. I don't think it had one undented body panel and part of the cloth top was missing. On the other hand, they WERE pretty flexible about an "after-hours" pickup. I'm in the car rental business, so you ought to check with the rental provider about the age. Our policy is you have to be 25 years old to rent a car. Other providers have different policies. Some will rent if the renter is 21 and has full-coverage insurance. Again, check with the rental providers to determine what the age policies are.

Hello,

I remember several months back someone had posted that they weren't able to find any car rental agencies on St. John that rented to drivers under 25. The only one I remember them mentioning they had a go with was Budget on St. Thomas and they were required to pay an additional deposit.

Your best bet is to contact the various St. John agencies and see what their age policy is. Let us know what you find out.

Hello LyndsVIChesney,

I am a St. Thomas Islander. I'll pass on the age question. 😉

I think the age issue is of the biggest concern, and wwould figure out who will rent to you, before I would worry about the condition of the car. We have rented from O'Connor at the westin and found our rental to be fine. I still havent figured out why anyone wants a pristine Jeep on STJ... as long as it goes, and gets you where you need to be, what difference does it make what it LOOKS like? We unzipped windows all the way around the day we got our Jeep and pretty much left it that way all week, no problems. Cost between all the rental companies is so close you will just want to figure out who is willing to rent to you under 25.

I think if I were you I might just call someone at O'Connor directly and ask, very politely if they will rent to you...thier policy online states they will only rent to those 26 and older...bummer!Good luck!

I was there in October and rented on site at the Westin through O'Connor. We rented a Liberty in good shape. The price of the rental was comparable with everywhere else we looked. Like many places they prohibit you putting the top down on the Wranglers and taking the vehicle off St. John. The Jeep ran fine and got us where we needed to go. The people were helpful, although they did not have a lot of knowedge about how to drive a 4WD vehicle which would have been helpful since we never had a 4WD before. During the week, we had a nail in a tire and a slow leak while there. The spare was not one worth driving on in the rain so we wanted the other tire fixed. Unfortunately we had to drive into the Texaco for them to patch the tire there. Alhough it put a wrinkle in our plans for the day, the people there were helpful and the tire was fixed quickly. Overall, we had a good experience with them.
