My husband agreed to do a last minute quick get away Dec. 2-7 this year because we were able to get cheap airfare. We have been to STT & STj 3 times. We want a place to stay (not a tent!) for $100 or less a night. The only thing we want is an ocean view and the sound of the ocean would be a plus! We don't care if we stay on STT or STJ. I have been searching and searching and now my eyes are crossed so I am looking to you guys for some ideas. Thanks!

You're going to be very hard pressed to find anything for $100/night or less even without an ocean view. The Virgin Islands Campground on Water Island has wood frame and canvas cottages for $109/night in season - rather more than a tent and might suit. If you double your budget to $200/night you might find a studio at Sapphire on www.vrbo.com. Good luck!

That's what I thought too, but there are actually a dozen or more for $75 - $100 this time of year. Allot of them are at Saphire. 🙂 I just have to make a decision!

Just remember, sometimes you get exactly what you pay for.

I know, now tonight I asked my husband to do some searching and he upped the budget to $150/night so we should be able to find something decent. 🙂 Still willing to take any suggestions. I want to book something tomorrow. 🙂

When you say "this time of year" are you referring to now or December? Big difference in the rates off season and in season. And, honestly, if there are even more than two at Sapphire advertising a $75/night rate off season I'm curious as to where you found them as I don't see any more than that on vrbo. As LindaJ says, you get what you pay for so you really do need to exercise caution if contemplating booking something which is priced considerably lower than market. Good luck!

I had good luck on vrbo. Many owners were willing to give a discount rate if asked!

Even with VRBO, you get what you pay for! Had a friend who rented a house and I was shocked at what I saw. Pool was filthy the whole time they were there, jacuzzi didn't work, worn furniture, smelly bedding, caretaker below which wasn't disclosed, the list goes on. Make sure you ask LOTS of questions!

We are renting a condo from someone on this message board. We were able to get a good deal. I will let you know how it went when we get back. I'm hopeful it will be fine as it is owner occupied half of the year. 🙂
