When my Husband and I planed our trip to the VI's we didn't know how many businesses would be closed!. We are celebrating our one year anniversary. We were married on Hatteras Island NC last September. I was disappointed to discover The Donkey Dinner and Skinny Legs would be closed while we are there. We are staying in Coral Bay. Any recommendations? I realize of course short of a hurricane we will have a great time regardless of what is open but I was wondering if we should expect a "ghost town"? Thanks, Todd & Mel

Ghost town?........no.........you'll see at least one or two other vacationers.........maybe..........

Just kidding........while it is the slow season many people do visit St. John, but it is far short of the number of visitors during the winter high season.

There are plenty of good restaurants still open.

We particularly like the Caneel Bay Resort....a little pricey, but good......of course the occupancy will be low this time of year.

Will the passenger ferry still be running from STJ to Foxy's in September and will Foxy's still be open? Thank you.

The ferry schedule shows that the ferry is running on Friday, Saturday & Sunday........and I've never known Foxy's to close......but with the energy/fuel situation anything can change.

Suggest that you make a couple of telephone calls before setting out.

A couple of years ago we took the ferry to Jost in October....it was very quiet at White Bay.......and there were very few people at Foxy's.

Thanks Darleen,

Foxys will be pretty slow in oct. and during the day there it will be quiet but day time you have a better chance of meeting Foxy !! don't forget too that the Soggy Dollar is open and i'm sure Seddys One Love. as for st john there ar enought restaurants/bars open to keep you happy. of course the beaches never close !!

My wife and I will be there Sept. 21-27. We're actually kinda happy that this is the "peak" of the slow season. No crowds on the beaches - shorter waits for tables (and service) - cheaper rates on the villa (Serendip!). So a few eateries and shops may be closed? We'll be in St. John for a week with no crowds. Does it get better?

Well, yeah, if the Swedish Bikini Team was staying at Serendip, too, it would be better - but other than that...

Hey Ed,
We will be ships passing in the night. My husband and I will be on Tortola Sept 25- 28. Get in to St. John Sept. 28. A week in Cruz Bay. Then 2 days on St Thomas. I hope you and your wife have a great time! It's too bad we won't be able to share a beer. 😎
Take care,
Mel

manaste:

Here is the from Ruth at St. John Spice which is quite helpful relative to restaurant/bar closings...she posted this in June, so I am not sure of changes since then, but it should be a fairly good guide....

Have a wonderful time in paradise!

I was going to say that last year Foxy's was closed in early October, but y'all beat me to it. But Soggy Dollar was open.

Ruth's list is the comprehensive guide to restaurant closings. It seems like lots in Coral Bay will be closed while you're there, but there were still plenty of places open when we were there last October.

Regardless, you will enjoy your trip. I like STJ much better when it's slow.
