I see Bluwater on this alot. You must be local. Your advise seems positive and helpful. Even though our 30th anniv trip isn't for some time, I hope you're still on this blog for future questions we may have.

We're staying a week at Calabash Cottages and renting the jeep on St. Johns. We are thinking about venturing over to Tortola. Any advise on this as far as ferrys, beaches, transportation would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle, If you're going to Tortola for a day, here's what we do. Take the morning STJ / West End Tortola ferry which takes about 45 minutes. You can rent a car at denzyl's in Stj and have one waiting at his Tortola office when you get there. Someone will pick you up.

Visit all of the north shore beachs of Tortola. Very nice day trip to do on your own. And you don't have to pay a fee at customs when you get there and clear customs.

I have some pix at www.pbase.com/promoguy101

It's actually very much worth it.

Promo,
Nice photos. Thanks. Spent a week in the wine country 8 yrs ago. Nice B&Bs. Bests was up the coast at Albion Inn, Unit #1 (cottage). Also like Grape Leaf Inn in Healdsburg, and ended with Inn Above the Tides in Saulsalito. Liked the wine so much we have been driving out and purchasing enough grapes to share 4 oak barrels with friends. Got some great cab, merlot. Expensive hobby, but lots of fun!

We'll use your advise for a day trip to Tortola~

Eagle's,

I am not a local, I am just a frequest visitor. I wish i had more info on the methods of transport between STJ and Tortola, but I rarely get to Tortola. Promo seems to have the skinny on getting to Tortola. And, since Promo is another frequent visitor, I'd take his advice anyday.

Enjoy!

Eagle, we asked the same thing because you will look at Tortola from Calabash. The general concensus was that it doesn't have alot more to offer than St. John does. So enjoy the view but do the STJ beaches and hikes. Salt Pond, Lameshur and East End is close to you. Then hit the North Shore on other days.
We haven't gotten to the Baths (on VG) yet and may sometime.
Which cottage are you in?

MickB, that seems to be the consesus...skip Tortola. We did Little Lameshur, Trunk, Hawksnest 5 yrs ago. Loved Lameshur...great snorkeling.
We'll be in Sago. Did you stay at Calabash? Susan has been very helpful. Most negative comments seem to be the bumpy, steep dirt road up to the cabins. Not a problem as we live in Colo and drive that sort of stuff all the time.
