I was hoping someone may have some suggestions for a hotel or lodging near the courthouse. We were planning on staying our first night in town and walking over to get our marriage license before heading over to Water Island for the day and then onward to the Red Hook for the rest of our stay. Any suggestions would be great...Thanks.

You can try Bunker Hill Guest house or Galleon House.

Or The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle. Galleon House and The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle are very close together with Blackbeard's being the closest to the courthouse.

Where exactly is the courthouse located in relation to Hotel 1829? Thanks in advance.

Hotel 1829 is in the same area as all the ones already mentioned. They're the equivalent of about 3 blocks west of the courthouse.

Friends of mine stayed at Hotel 1829 for a couple nights.
There is a small pool on the premises.
They serve a continental breakfast that is included in the room rate. Fresh fruit, juice, coffee, milk, etc. No cooked breakfast.
They just used it as a quick stop-over and had no complaints and thought it was convenient, due to the fact they didn't rent a car and it was close to town and the dollar safari.

I don't know if they still serve the continential breakfast. You would have to inquire.

They have a website.

It is not all that far from the courthouse. Can walk. Considered in town.

There is also the Green Iguana up above the 99 Steps from Hotel 1829.

Considered above town. Has kitchen amenities, nice units. No pool on premises. Need to climb up and down the 99 Steps, if you are not renting a car, but still doable. A little farther than Hotel 1829, but can still walk.

Thanks, Is it a relatively short, safe walk from Hotel 1829 to the courthouse?

Yes, but it's up a steep hill to return.

I checked out Hotel 1829 for research. I would definitely request a harbor view room no matter how long/short my stay.

You can walk up the steps from Main St. through the park, which makes it a little easier.

Yes, the steps through the park are a little easier, but to me, with the pigeons and chickens, that route can be kind of gross if it hasn't bee recently cleaned. That is a safer route, though.
