Looking at renting a 3 br condo on the oceanfront at Bolongo and am wondering how the beach is there .. Sandy or rocky? Urchins or jellys abundant? Restaurants good?

Ruby,

My father has been there recently and he is planning another trip next week back to Bolongo Bay. He has nothing but great things to say about it entirely. The beach is sandy. There are some pictures on this site of bolongo beach actually. He said the food was great and so was the service. He just went there three months ago and he flys back on Sept 1. I am flying out there Aug 31 but for a PMV. Hope this helps. Also Bolongo does all inclusive.

I'm guessing your father stayed at the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. I'm guessing that Ruby is referring to condo units at what is referred to as the Watergate condos further down although their names have changed in recent years.

The beach at Bolongo isn't generally regarded as being up to par compared to others. The sand is "rough", the water is generally choppy, the snorkeling is minimal at best and sea urchins abound. The restaurants at the Bolongo resort are fine and "Mim's" which isn't associated with the resort certainly has its afcionados.

TripAdvisor ( http://www.tripadvisor.com) may have more reviews on both properties. Reviews are getting harder to find, I think, because more and more posters can make money from their opinions with a blog or website instead of creating free content AKA reviews for other sites.

We stayed at a 2 BR Watergate condo last year. Inside is quite small and the outside is just as described by STT Res.

Personally, I would look into Sapphire Beach next time.

Hope this helps.

I stayed at Watergate. The location is great, but i didn't care for swimming in the bay. the beach is sandy at first then the closer you get to the water it is rocky. When you get in the water it is all grassy. I did snorkle and it was fun. I just spent my time at other beaches instead. Mim's I thought was great. It is next door to Bolongo at Watergate villas. Hope this helps. I was there in May.
