It seems like most of the posts about eating on St. Thomas focus on either breakfast or dinner. What are your thoughts on good lunch spots with some island atmosphere? I really enjoyed Fungi's and Molly Malone's on my last trip. I plan on adding the Blue Moon Cafe and Latitude 18 this time around. Any other recommendations?

We are leaving St. John today...after a great trip. We are also looking for a great last lunch stop in St. Thomas on our way home. Recommendations would be appreciated! Outdoor, water view, beach front are our preferences. Any suggestions?

Best lunch in my opinion is to be had at Cuzzin's on Back Street, one block behind Main Street in CA. Local fare plus all your favs like hamburgers, BLT's etc. My fav is the creole shrimp platter, comes w/3 sides (I get cole slaw, awesome potato salad and fried sweet plantains) . It's about $11.99. The soup is always terrific and homemade. They have a bar and many island fruit juices, again my fav is sour sop juice...so sweet and delicious despite it's sour name! Give it a try...park in the municipal lot and just walk to the head of Main Street and back one block (away from the harbor), it's about a block and a half on your right!

It can't get much better than Blue Moon any time of day, but lunch is really great.
All the salads & sandwiches are fresh and SO good and very innovative. The Ahi sandwich. SIGH. Just be SURE you get the Thai sesame slaw with what ever you get. And, somehow, their fries are some of the best I've ever had.
But, the setting is perfect. Right on the beach. You may not want to leave...so make sure you take your swimsuit and beach towels (the beach is public, but you can't use the lounge chairs since they are just for the guests of Secret Harbor).

Roberts at the Elysian is also "to-die-for" - if you have the time. SO GOOD. Another good beach, but not as calm as Secret Harbor.

I third the recommendations for Cuzzin's and Gladys's. For Cuzzin's though, I suggest a late lunch, since they give you so much food. Consider it an early dinner.

However, since Gladys's and Cuzzin's are not water/beachfront you might consider Iggie's at the Bolongo Beach resort. The lunches there are ok. I don't go there for the food, but it's a nice casual dining place right on the beach.

I remember many many years ago, when Coral World first re-opened after Marilyn, that their food concession had pretty good order-at-the-counter lunch food (burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc.) for a decent price and you can enjoy some time at the aquarium, too. (don't go just for the lunch!)

If it's not about the food, but more about the beach, head for Coki or Magen's. You can get lunch at either place and still stay in your bathing suits.

We love Cuzzin's and go there on the way to the airport. If you are driving its tough to get to. We park at the public parking in front of the Holiday Inn and walk two blocks. We'll be there on the 22nd!

Cheers, RickG

We have a custom is to eat in downtown CA on the last day on the way to the airport

It is a place in Hibicus Alley that makes brick oven pizzas
I want say Amici

Cleanest public bathroom on the island is next door.

Fun to wind down, watch the cruise ship folks hunt for deals
Have one more bushwaker, and a pizza that will stick with you all the way home.

Start planning next trip!

Probably too late for Jen, but...I enjoy Wikked at Yacht Haven Grande. You get to look at the cruise ships, Larry Ellison's "boat" (along with some others) and eat some inspired items. Othe waterfront places: Iggie's, Fungi's, Robert's and Ainsley's, Blue Moon, Coco Joe's, Hook, Line and SInker, Magens,. And some semi-waterfront places- Carigas at Bottoms Up, Hull Bay Hideaway, Molly Molone's.

For local cuisine (not on the water) I echo Cuzzin's. Try their conch (fritters, curried or in butter sauce), kallaloo or chicken soup, local fish with fungi, plantain, etc Yum...If someone in your party is not adventurous, they make a great chicken salad sandwich, too. And as Poohwear says, try the local drinks- seamoss, maubi, passionfruit, soursop.

In answer to the poster who said to eat at Coral World....believe me, it is mediocre at best...typical hamburgers, hot dogs, ff, soda at enormously inflated prices....

Thanks all...

TomB - I second TomB's thoughts about Cafe Amici. It's a great spot for lunch while waiting for the Charlotte Amalie ferry to St. John. The ferry landing is almost directly across the street. The outdoor patio with the dark woods and ceiling fans have always struck me as Hemingway-esque.

I was enjoying my vacation on STT last week and LOVED Glady's and Cuzzin's for lunch. The Green House was great for dinner.
