I have heard really mixed reviews about this hotel - has anyone been there recently - I am going next month and am hoping there are no negative reviews! Are they renovating still and are they fully operating and CLEAN!?!

Oh yes, it is definitely clean. Its a typical Marriott with the bedding and all. The bathrooms are a bit small, was my only complaint, along with the location. It's bit out of the way for going to Red Hook etc. But all in all it was very nice, great views (great to watch the cruise ships pull away), nice pool & restaurants. Iguana feedings near the swim-up bar are not to miss! I think they are renovating only the new timeshares (Frenchman's Cove) and not Frenchman's Reef. At least this was the case when we were there in July.

You will have a great time!

Our family of 4 had a great time there in June. Yes, it is a bit far from Red Hook, but hey... it's vacation!

I love the pool and hot tub on the beach. The restaurant on the beach is always fun too. We always stay at the Marriott and have never had a bad time.

patg212: The legal drinking age in the USVI is 18 so I'm not sure about your question. If you are not of legal age to drink in the USVI but you appear to be of age but you're anywhere from pre-teen to mid twenties, then expect to be carded and ensure that you carry proper ID to verify your age, especially in a large resort hotel such as the Marriot Frenchmans Reef.

As much as the lure of alcohol in a tropical environment sounds like a good "trip," I can tell you from very long experience catering to both visitors and newbie relocators alike that it's really not a very good idea to get trashed ether on alcohol or drugs while here whether you be of legal age or not.

Enjoy the environment! Go beachng at Frenchman's Reef but then go further afield and explore. Obviously if you're under 18 you're surely acompanied by a parent? Talk and question on!

patg212,
To answer your question, wonder no more! The Marriot will card you " When Trying to buy Alcohol" even if you look 18.
