Hi All,

First-time poster here.

My family is planning a late July vacation to St. John. We are planning to stay at the Concordia Eco-tents, which look absolutely fantastic. Of course with the eco-tents being rather like "luxury camping," there will be no air conditioning in our "room" for the week.

We are concerned about handling the heat of high summer. While the eco-tents are reported to get great breezes being perched on hillsides between Salt Pond Bay and Drunk Bay, we're not used to the strength of the sun at a latitude so much closer to the equator than Northern Virgina (which does get pretty darn hot and humid itself).

So how much hotter is it in St. John during high summer than the rest of the year? Is it stifling or am I just getting myself all worked up? The heat and danger of bad sunburn is my primary concern, but otherwise this could be a week in paradise! And by the way the kids are two boys, aged 15 and 12.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Jess

You are just getting yourself worked up. You'll be much cooler on St. John than home in Virginia. The temperature remains pretty constant, just a bit more humidity in the summer.

I have been reallly hot in St. John at times in the house we rent and at bedtime even with fans. But, it doesn't matter. Just wear the least amount of clothing possible and enjoy the most beautiful island I have ever visited. We are arriving in St. John in a couple of days for our 8th visit so it's obvious I have more than survived. Our first stay was at Maho Campground. This will be our 4th visit in the house we are renting above John's Folly Bay which is near Condordia. It is a beautiful area. Of course, it is all beautiful.

Enjoy.

Temperature does not vary a great deal from winter to summer months but the humidity is slightly higher in the summer. Everything is relative. Not sure what Virginia is like but we are from Houston and adjustment is minor (no AC in the villa but constant breezes). Make sure you use your sun block and keep applying it during the day, especially on the boys.
Enjoy
