Anyone out there ever rent a minivan for use on St. John? We've been to St. John twice, but we always rented a jeep as we had only one child. Now we have three under the age of 4! This means three carseats, which won't fit in any of the Jeeps, along with luggage. I'm concerned about getting to most of the villas and making it around the island ... and parking in Cruz Bay! Advice welcome!

I've only seen mini vans on the STT rental car sites (Budget, Dependable.) You'd have to check to make sure they let you take the car to STJ (I think those 2 companies do) and also to find out what happens if you have car trouble.

On St. John I've seen SUVs with 3rd row seating, like a Dodge Durango or Ford Explorer.

I know getting a car seat into the third row in an SUV can be a pain, but depending on where you plan on driving you will be better off with an SUV than a mini van. Even on the paved roads, when it rains I'm grateful for a 4WD.

We did a Durango Last year for 6 Adults

Worked fine with plenty of power.

We did have to make to runs with luggage on our departure, but there was enough room for snorkel gear, cooler, towels etc and the adults.

We are using O’Connor for the second year. They have small place across from Dolphin Market and I think work out of the Westin. They were very friendly.

Thanks for the advice. We usually rent on STT because it seems to be the easiest way to get us all to STJ. I'll look into the 4wd w/ 3rd row seats. Might be OK for vacation (as opposed to "real life!")

We rented a Windstar mini-van from Budget at the Havensite office January 2008. It was brand new and since it was Budget, they allow it on the car ferry to STJ. We had 4 adults, a 13 year old and a 10 year old and it was very convenient.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

We rented a Jeep Commander with the 3rd row seating. 3 kid's under the age of four, good for you to take them all along!

Last two trips we did we rented a minivan from Budget.. No problems. Two adults with three kids. No hassle with trips to STJ. Just my .02 cents.

Two weeks age we rented a minivan from budget. We have 4 kids ages 18,13,12,and 8. We didn't have any problems. We did stay in the Rendezvous Bay area and decided to stay in one night when there was rain because we had some concerns about slipping on the steep hills.
