We are arriving in St John on Sat afternoon and staying at the Westin. We were thinking about heading out to Miss Lucy's for brunch on Sunday. Is this a good way to spend our first day on St John? What to order? How to get there? Time brunch starts? Basically any info would be helpful.

YOU WILL HAVE NOT BEEN TO STJ IF YOU DO NOT GO TO MISS LUCY'S ON A SUNDAY, I HAVE NOT MISSED A TRIP TO HER PLACE SINCE 1978.

IT HAS COME A LONG WAYS SINCE THEN, HOWEVER I REALLY MISS THE GOATS.

MAY SURE YOU SIT OUT SIDE IF YOU CAN FIND A PLACE.

SHE WAS A FINE LADY AND NEVER FORGOT YOUR FACE ONCE SHE MET YOU.

I love Miss Lucy's brunch, but if you want to eat outside you need to get there early, like a half hour before they open
I believe it starts at 11, but I would not quote me on that.

There really is nothing better than listening to jazz under the trees by the water with a mimosa.

We love Miss Lucy's for Sunday brunch too. I thought she opens for Brunch on Sunday. Maybe a local can set us straight on the time but you have to get there early if you want to eat under the trees. I agree with xislandgirl, there's nothing better than having eggs benedict and a mimosa under the trees at Miss Lucy's.

Believe time is 10-2 so you need to be there about 9:15 to get a pick of the tables. Double check times if you want to make sure ((340) 693-5244).
Bloody Mary's are excellent, Eggs Hollandaise with crab and lobster meat are wonderful and the experience of view, music and breeze are to die for.

Did I mention we also like Miss Lucy's? 😀

We love the Sunday brunch at Miss Lucy's. My favorite is the french toast. We have also enjoyed dinner there. We will be on St. John in two months, and I plan to be at the Sunday brunch for both Sundays we are there. I agree with the importance of sitting outside under the trees next to the ocean. We have been there when there was a full moon, and that was really beautiful.

Enjoy!!.

We went last week. Although the ambience of sitting oceanside was good, we found it to be our least favorite dining experience on the island. Horrible singer with a keyboard just ruined the atmosphere and the server continually messed up our order. And with an attitude issue. We absolutely loved everyplace we went except there.

My recommendations: Island Blues was great, Aqua Bistro great.

Sorry to all those who disagree, maybe is was just a bad night. I think it was a Friday night maybe. Can't remember..we were on island time and hardly kept up with time or date!

I went for brunch in November at the insistance of someone whose friend insisted they go for the conch fritters.

The brunch menu was too Stateside breakfastsy (new word here!) for me. I had the Eggs Benedict with Spinach, I think, which was the same thing I had had at breakfast earlier, and I eat something similar at home many mornings. There were no Caribbean type breakfast options like johnny cake, saltfish, or brunchy type items like conch fritters or some type of fish sandwich.

The regular "band" was there, but there were only 2 musicians, so the music didn't sound complete. Sambacombo? The name of the band is something like that. I heard them later with the full slate of musicians, and they were wonderful, but they didn't all show up at Miss Lucy's that morning when I was there. Also, the chickens who assert themselves are kind of annoying.

The chef promises additions to the brunch menu, so I would inquire before I ventured out there again. The view is nice, but there are so many good views on St John, that I can't say that this one is any better than the others. I think the only other brunch option is at Caneel, and it's pricey, so people opt for Miss Lucy's instead. I would try Miss Lucy's Full Moon Pig Roast instead, I think.

Based on the last two comments, I will not concern myself with not getting a table on Sunday morning, really glad that there are all types, leaves for room for the rest of us.

Sorry the both of you had "bad" meals, I encourage you to go to other places and will hope you have better luck.

Hi RM,

I don't have any advice for you but we are going to the Westin St John at the end of April. How dod you like the Westin? Was it easy to go over to Cruz Bay town? How was Miss Lucy's? Any tips or advice is much appreciated.

As resorts go, the Westin is fine. You should have not problem getting a taxi to town whenever you need to go but I strongly suggest you rent a Jeep for at least part of your stay. The northshore beaches are waaaaaay better than the beach at the Westin and you'll want to explore the island and go to beaches and restaurants off premise. We usually do Miss Lucy's at least once for Sunday brunch while we're there but there are lots of places to see. Definitely rent a Jeep and have fun.
