Eveyone will have to excuse me since I am not familar much with talking on a message board. Thank you all for the help. I just booked my tickets so there is no going back.

I checked the ferry board and it looks like it cost $60 round trip from Red Hook to the Virgin Gorda. Does anyone know about how much more it would cost for a round trip taxie to get to the Baths? Depending on how much Limnos cost (I e-mailed them to find out for May) it might not be worth the hassle of the ferry if Limnos is not too expensive. Of couse NHII and the other look fanstic but a bit pricy for us. The $125 price that was mentioned is that after the discount from the coupon book? Also does it matter who you book the rental car with Budget through to get that coupon book? i.e, Expedia, AAA?

Also, I do want to spend an entire day in St. John. I would have stayed the entire week but it seemed way to expensive for our budget.

Also do the buses in St. John drop you off at the beach or do you have to hike downhill to get to them? I want to visit several during our day there. 1 being of course Trunk Bay.

Geeky Lesson on picture linking:

The pic has to be online somehwere - not sitting on your PC in a file.

Find the pic you want online somewhere.

Right click the pic and you'll see a list of options pop up.

The last options is called "properties" - click that.

A window will pop open and in the middle is a line called "Address(URL)"

Copy the address (url) using highlight, then right click, then copy.

Come back to the VINOW screen where you are typing your message and wherever you want to put the pic to be you should type:

don't use the parentheses ( )...make sure you use the square ones [ ].

that should bring up the pic when you post the message. You are actually computer coding when you do this...telling th VINOW servers to go call up the picture from wherever you found it...

If it doesn't work, it is normally because you don't have the url lines up exactly with the [ ] Don't include any spaces before or after the [ ]s...or it might not work correctly.

Hi, Dawn!

My husband & I spent only one day on St. John last year & (like you) - I wanted to take in as much as possible.

We decided to (& did) take a open-aired jeep tour. It was, I think, about $20 per person for about 2 hours. It was really nice because it went to Bourdeaux Mountain Overlook & the Annaberg Ruins & of course drove down North Shore Rd & even stopped at Cinnamon Bay Campground for a quick look at the beach.

It was a great tour & it was nice not to have to worry about driving & trying to enjoy the new scenery at the same time.

We had previously decided that we wanted to spend a few hours at one particular beach & not be trying to fit too much into a one day visit.

We chose Cinnamon Beach due to its great reputation as a beautiful beach & because it also had changing facilities, a restaurant & (truthfully - also, because it wasn't Trunk Bay). We just wanted to try one of the "less popular and/or populated" beaches.

After our jeep/truck tour - we asked our driver how we could get back to Cinnamon & he told us to just wait a few minutes & after all were unloaded, he took us back. And - he didn't even want to get paid for it. He said we were his for the day. Really nice guy. He was even hanging around the driveway at Cinnamon quite a few hours later when we needed a lift back to Cruz Bay.

Another plus to Cinnamon was that it has some ruins across the street that were fun to walk through.

Just thought you might be interested to hear what a day could be like - even without your own vehicle. If you decide to take a "taxi/jeep/truck tour" - you may just want to be sure what the driver's route is. Especially if there are particular places you want to see. But, I would assume that most would take in the route that we were on.

Have fun planning!! We are planning our second trip - and can't wait to return!

Good Luck!

We were at Red Hook to pick up the ferry in Nov and I don't remember a parking lot but that's a great question, keep bumping it up if no one picks up on it. By all means, call Limnos, that's what we did and got immediate, friendly service. Phone calls seem to work better when contacting VI people. Good for Bluwater sending you the pick of the shuttles but from what you've said, you want to go the rental car route. These taxis are fine, but you will only go where they want to take you and they don't go to the far end of the island which you'll want to see, Coral Bay and beyond. Break open the wallet and rent a car. Like I said, these are expensive islands and another 50-60 bucks or so, big deal! Life is great memories, not money and the cost of a day's rental will buy you great memories you won't get otherwise.

There is construction at the Red Hook ferry terminal so parking is at a site by Eudora Kean High School and then you walk (or take a taxi) to the ferry dock. Alternatively, you can park on the street, and many people do so without any problems, but it is illegal and I have seen people towed.

Karrie-

We were sending pics of the taxis because Dawn was asking what the taxis looked like and thought maybe they were like golf carts, so we had to give the visual because it really is hard to imagine the truck beds with seats 🙂

Dawn, we took the Redhook/Cruz Bay barge with little/no problem. Made one newbie mistake on trip over, didn't get out of car before they blocked us in with last vehicles. (I could not put the width of my hand between their mirror and mine) Make sure you get out immediately if you don't want to spend 30 minutes viewing the inside of a WWII landing craft! Return trip was not so crowded, plus we didn't make same mistake. Otherwise, except for backing onto craft, no different than other ferries. Parking is quite a distance from Redhook, unless you park on shoulder. After reading earlier posts, I am thinking I should have read the rental agreement for exclusions. (I figure thats why I paid the extra insurance waiver!) Have a great trip!

Dawn:

Huge ferry dock construction is currently in progress in Red Hook, the main parking lot is closed and cars are jammed along both sides of the street for a LONG way. Take a taxi to the ferry!

There is a farily large parking lot for Limnos, but it also services the Marina as well. It is a fairly small marina, and don't be surprised when you see the door shut for Limnos. You have to be there at 730, because of releases and paperwork that have to be completed. Depending on where you're staying, yes, you go through the light near Red Hook....it's at the bottom of the hill, on the left coming FROM Red Hook back towards the Food Center. If you see the Independent Boat Yard (also on the left), you've gone too far.

I did their trip back in November - was FANTASTIC!!! WHen the Captain is telling about the various islands, if you want to hear then you will need to be below decks....it was very hard to hear what he's saying if you're upstairs on the sundeck. MUCH better view, tho 😉

With Limnos you arrive at the Baths via land. Is it an easy hiking trail down? I was looking on line and I was seeing all these people walking on the boulders.
