Our experience with mosquitoes in a villa on Peterborg this past June,l morning, noom, and night, is something we don't want to repeat, but I was wondering if there are fewer of these pests during the winter months? Thank you!

I have never had a problem with mosquitoes. I have visited the area january- may and don't recall ever even been bitten, maybe I'm lucky.

This question seems to be really "individually answered". I mean that some people just seem to attract them while others have no problem whatsoever. Our experience was that we normally come down the first week of February and have never had any issue at all with either mosquitoes or "noseeums". This year, we came down October 30 - November 6th and my wife got eaten alive (while I had only an occasional noticeable bite). Sorry I can't completely answer your question - just would encourage you to be prepared for the worse and enjoy the best!

Good Luck! Have Fun!

I agree with VI...you never know when they're going to be out, but I would think the worst times are after a period of rain or showers where they get the chance to breed. Just like anyplace else.

Also, some people seem to have a target on their heads for mosquitos, while others don't get bothered as bad.

I think noseeums are worse then i do mosquitos,....at least you can smack them.

This past early November we were on Lion in da Sun and went to Great Thatch for a quick swim/beach/snorkel stop. It was mid-morning and this was by far the worst "noseeums" we ever experienced! To the point where wife gave up and went into the water (keep in mind she LOVES lying on the beach looking at the water more than being IN the water). Yes, I agree that early evening by the beach and after dark at villas at elevation will be the worst - however they can "bug" you anytime, anywhere. Just be ready and stay flexible and you'll still have a fabulous time!

They come a few days after heavy rain and know no season.
Do this close doors about two hours before sunset and burn a mosquito coil inside... Windows and screen s open of course. They are most active right around sunset and sunrise.

I've lived her 35 years and observe that the mosquito quesiton varies with individuals. I have visitors who never get a bite and others who get dozens.

Use OFF or DEET

Ask the owners where you are staying if they use a Mosquito Magnet. We use one and seldom see skeeters of noseeums.

It definitely depends on where you are. We stayed in Chocolate Hole a couple of times and I got eaten alive and we stayed at Serendip and weren't bothered by any mosquities.

We are staying at Serendip in late Jan to early Feb, and I'm hoping there won't be any!

I do agree that they like some of us more than others!
