Bassman: I waited until I could get an Island Trader, but all the ads this week are for the Cinco de Mayo celebrations! However, Mother's Day is a HUGE holiday here, second only to Christmas. Most restaurants that serve breakfast/lunch will have something special. Grand Cru is advertising a 3 course prixe fixe for $50/pp. Molly Molones has a special brunch. The Old Stone Farmhouse is advertising that they now serve Sunday brunch, but don't have a Mother's Day special listed yet. Last year Oceana had a great brunch. Hull Bay Hideaway will probably have something with music. Places like Blue Moon will be open. The Ritz has a legendary brunch, as well as Caneel on St John (I think you can take the Caneel ferry from the park dock near Red Hook.) Your best bet is to get next week's Island Trader (comes out on Thursday) and see what people are cooking up. Definitely call ahead!

Thanks guys. I was afraid that everything would be closed. I haven't be able to get the Island Trader on line for the last two weeks. See you all Saturday.

My favorite is Windows on the Harbor at Marriott Frenchman's Reef. For casual try the Chef's Table.

OMG, Bassman, definitely no! There will be huge crowds. People sell gifts on the side of the road for several days ahead and up to Mother's Day for shopping procrastinators. Mommabear will be offered flowers and Mother's Day greetings from all. Many special brunches, dinners, jewelry sales. Good luck! 😉

Wow! I never would have thought that Mother's day was so big on the island. This is putting a lot of pressure on me. Just when I think i've made the right choise someonre comes up with another good suggestion. I might be able to narrow it down to two and then flip a coin. How much in advance do I need to make a reservation? Can I wait until Saturday when I'm there, or call now before we leave home?

You should be okay on Saturday. In the paper today:
Fat Turtle and Wikked are having brunch and dinner specials with complimentary Mimosa or champagne and a gift for Mom.
Brunch at the Ritz: $74 for adults, 11-2:30, reservations required.
