My brother-in-laws job is transferring him to St. Croix. Out of my own curiousity, I'm reading up on St. Croix and all it has to offer. What are the best ways (cheaper!!) to travel from Orlando, FL to St. Croix? Are there ferrys from PR?

ashleyg: Hopefully your brother in law has logged into this site's relocation forum (see RH top of page "other forum") for an abundance of information related to relocation along with archived moving stories - just so much information just a click away!.

The airline costs from mainland US to the Virgin Islands fluctuate so much from month to month that I think it would be almost impossible for anyone to give you "real-time" advice where that's concerned. No, there is no regular ferry between PR and either STT or SX.

Assuming that you're interested bcause you want to take advantage of your brother in law's stay here to come visit, best you come up with some flexible dates and then start doing research on the airlines that regularly fly between the mainland and St Croix. Other posters can tell you which they are although American Airlines does for sure. If you're sufficiently flexible and can continuously check for dates and prices, very good deals can be had. Good luck and cheers!

Since we live in beautiful Florida, I've never had an interest in the islands. Now, with them moving, I do want to be able to see them often, and not just because they are in SX. ;o) It was mostly out of curiosity about the cost of flights. It seems Jet Blue into PR ($89) will be cheapest. Getting from PR to SX is the next step!

I will have them check out the relocation forum. I'm a planner. I plan everything and I like to have even the most minute details worked out. I'm horrible on vacations! I'm thinking up questions on moving, the costs, the housing, the vehicles, the land, etc and they're just excited!

Thanks again!

Hello Ashley,

PR to STX, you will have to take a short flight on one of the airlines that flies inter-island like American or Cape Air http://www.flycapeair.com/. Check their websites for rates.

Since you are interested in the cost of living, housing, etc. definitely check the relocation site, which the relocation forum is part of. The site has sections on those topics and other information. Here is the home page: http://www.vimovingcenter.com.

Spiritair.com has direct flights from Orlando/MCO to San Juan and if you register on their site they will send you emails when they're running specials. From San Juan, as Islander advised, you can pick up Cape Air or AA to STX.
