Anybody have an opinion of which boat charter service to use? We rented from Ocean runner 3 years ago and had a good experience, but It looks like they are still running the same boats and motors.
We probably will hire a captain this time so we can venture to the BVI.
Please don't tell me about some wonderful sailing charter! Not going to happen! We are power boat people!

We rented from Nauti Nymph a few times. I wish they would do the paperwork the night before, because you waste a good 30 minutes at the dock filling everything out, waiting for the captain to arrive, etc. We had our paperwork done and ready to go. Also someone fill me in on this one because we choose to rent a boat with a captain, is it appropriate to pay for their lunch? We always have but wasnt sure what else to do.

Most of the Capts get there lunch for free because they brought you there.
I would simply ask can I get your lunch
They will probably reply no mine is covered
Then say will you join us

Talk about resurrecting the dead, but...LOL!

Ok, so I inquired about N.N. a few weeks ago in a second thread and now i'm all axcious again because exactly 11 days until i'm home for a week!

So I have the reservations in w/ them (N.N.) for Sunday the 15th for bareboat. I know they are out on Red Hook. Basically, what is the process for getting the boat from the time I get to the office right as they open? I will be sort of on a time crunch and am just curious.

I also know sea conditions vary but if we had to use an average for say March-May. What's the water like on the north side of the island? (will be heading to Magens Bay for my niece's bday party and doing some water skiing and tubing).

If you are a qualified boater and familiar with handling and navigation overall - the check in process can go fairly quick - come with your food, drinks, ice, bags etc. - a lot of time gets spent going around Red Hook gathering these things otherwise - actually you can get ice on the dock.
The water can be rougher on the N side but you are driving down them to Magens - make sure you allow enough time on the return trip as you are pounding into them most of the way back.
Tough to be on a time crunch schedule - island time and boating and all.
