My partner and I will be vacationing in STX for the first time in August. I have a few questions:
Is it better to travel to STX Sunday to Sunday or Monday to Monday?
We'll be staying at the Cormorant--Which Deluxe room is better, one with a balcony or a patio right out to the beach?
Where should we rent a Jeep?
We love outdoors and watersports. Which hiking tour is better, to Annaly tidepools or to Jack's and Isaac's Bay? (BTW I couldn't reach Tan Tan tours via email, and couldn't find their website).
Is it safe for two women to go to Annaly or Jack's and Isaac's in the day alone without a group?
Salt River Kayak tour in morning or in evening?
Does Hotel on the Cay have the best evening beach BBQ with entertainment? I think Divi and Carambola have them also.

Can’t answer everything. A Jeep is a good idea if you want to go into steep bush country. You should try to do all three beaches. They are quite safe. (If you don’t know, they are all clothing-optional.) Tan Tan Tours does not have a site. Try calling owner Wave Phillip at 340/473-6446. The best scenery, in my opinion, is west of Annaly Bay, where you can wade and swim in a half-mile chain of sea pools that line the rocky, mountainous coast. (The weather has to be fairly settled.) There’s some great scenery, including a boulder-strewn baths and a 300-foot-long pool. Wave will tell you not to go into this little-explored area, but it’s quite safe if you concentrate and move slowly. What I love about St. Croix is all the “secret” places. Climb down onto the Point Udall isthmus, go to the northern edge, look back at the sea cliffs, and see the caves.

What a wonderful forum. I hesitated giving advice because my experience is somewhat dated. We stayed at the Cormorant several years ago. (just a year after hugo). It was our introduction to St Croix and we have been spending time here ever since and now consider ourselves a part of the island..... The rooms were great... if the rooms have been kept up to date ..you will enjoy your stay.. ? The downstairs deluxe rooms are right on a wonderful sandy beach. The upstairs rooms have the same wonderful views and also more privacy and security. We stayed in upstairs rooms and would do so again. "FOG" can give you better "exploring" advice than I can. The Cormorant has gone through several metamorphosist's...(is that a word?) over the past few years. It was (is?) gay owned and tried to appeal to the gay market. It is on a wonderful beach and was once described in guide books as the finest small caribbean hotel.

The upside potential for this property is great. You should have a wonderful time on St Croix.

We eat at the Cormorant about once a week and like it qiute a bit. The food is pricy, except for Monday night, trivia night. The have a special, abreviated menu that is less expensive and quite good. The servers have always been wonderful.
