Can anyone give me any info on the following villas: Winsome House, Chez Shell & Asontour. My husband and I are going to SJ fo the first time. I would like to be somewhere close enough that going out to dinner, etc. isn't too far but we don't have to be very close to town. We are mainly interested in a nice villa that is close to nice beaches. Thanks!

Couldn't find Asontour (spelling) but if you want to be close to the restaurants, I suggest Chez Shell over Winsome. The Coral Bay area is ~20 minutes from Cruz where most of the 'better' restaurants are. Not to say you can't find a good meal/time in Coral Bay but most consider Cruz Bay.

Asontour is on Gift Hill, so it sits above Chez Shell. Depending on how it is situated and how high up, it may get more sea breeze than Chez Shell being that much closer to sea level.

You will feel 'closer' to the water in Chez Shell and the drive will be ~5 minutes shorter to Cruz Bay. Do not consider Great Cruz Bay a good option for beaches. It is a 'man made' bay for the Westin and as such does not get the normal water movement the other bays get.

If you want water nearby (aside from a pool), choose Chez Shell. If you want more privacy, it looks as if Asontour might have that. Of course, if you are wanting privacy and don't mind traveling into Cruz from Coral every now and then, Winsome House is in a fairly remote area.

Not sure if this helps.

Does Chez Shell overlook the Westin in any way? If so, consider how you feel about that.

Since the North Shore is lined with great beaches, you'll be able to easily access some of them from either Winsome or Asontour - it's like being at either end of a string of fabulous beaches. What you get with Asontour is a closeness to Cruz Bay. What you get with Winsome is a remote location on a very pristine side of the island (mpre pristine that the rest of the pristine island, if that makes sense).

Thanks so much for the info. It looks like winsome house is out, mainly b/c no a/c which we want. What abou these: Hibiscus Hill & Wanderer & Cielo Vista (carefree vacations)? It's so hard b/c, like everyone else, I keep finding more villas!

Try calling the agencies for the ones you are considering. They can assist you and are familiar with the pros and cons of a particular villa in their portfolio and perhaps recommend options.

If they sound unsure or are sketchy with the information, that will also help you make a decision (don't use them!!).
