I'm planning a vacation in St. John next July- probably the week after the 4th, somewhere around there. These are the necessities for our group:

- At least 4 bedrooms
- A/C
- Waterfront preferable, but a short walk to the beach would be OK too.
- Pool and hot tub.
- Near Cruz Bay would be great as well.

I'm not sure where to search on the 'net, or else I'd do it myself- but I've been looking at this forum and there seems to be a lot of great information on here. I'd love to hear some suggestions! Thanks- Steve.

Hi Steve.

It would be helpful for you to mention your villa budget and whether or not the beach has to be sandy.

Our budget is probably in the $3000-5000 range, and we'd prefer the beach to have some sand on it. 🙂

We looked for pretty much the same thing our first trip in 1997. We had in mind the East Coast barrier island experience. St. John is not one flat stretch of sand. There are 52 beaches that are all different.

That being said, your choices near Cruz Bay are going to be near Frank Bay, Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole. A little farther afield is Reef Bay. The closest to the "on the beach" experience in your price range is going to be something like Tennis Villa http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/tennis_4/index.html on Great Cruz Bay. We looked at that for this November, but wanted to be farther up the hill for better views and fewer biting bugs - Cocotier http://www.destinationstjohn.com/cocotier.htm.

There are some other pricier options near the Westin. The Donald Schnell houses at http://www.donaldschnell.com/ do not list prices.

Cheers, RickG

We have stayed at many different villas. The best and most helpful one , for us, was VIVA. They are not only the nicest, but once you are at the villa- they do a couple of check ups, to make sure everything is going well. We have been using them, for the past 8 summers, and returned people get a 10% discount...that is wonderful..-lindalu
