We are headed to SJ in late Sept. into Oct. to celebrate 2 special occasions. We have only visited SJ once when we came over on the ferry & rented a car to explore when we rented a villa in St. Thomas long ago . My question is when we arrive at the airport the ferry schedule from Charlotte Amalie doesn't suit our times so we will have to take a taxi to Red Hook . What is the cost for 2 people . We are trying to narrow down our villa but there is so many beautiful ones to choose is there a better area to stay ? We are renting a 4X4 so we will be out & about . Where would you recommend to dine for 2 special occasions ??? Thank you !

You can gain a great deal of information from the links provided above. If you click on St Thomas then Taxi rates you'll find it about $11 pp + bags + tip. Ferry rates are also posted along with times (Upper RH corner> Quick Links> Ferry Schedule). As far as areas on STJ it really depends on your preferences and budget. The West End (Cruz Bay) tends to be more congested but with close proximity to town offers convenience to shops, restaurants, bars, fuel, etc. The East Side (Coral Bay) is closest to 'old STJ', is less populated but then doesn't have the variety of conveniences compared to Cruz Bay. Then there are villas overlooking the North Shore between Cruz & Coral but they tend to be higher $$$. Special dining is again a personal preference and you can find numerous suggestions on previous posts. My favorites are ZoZo's, La Plancha, La Tapa, & Rhumblines.

Given your travel dates I would definitely get travel insurance and please note that some restaurants gear down or close for the month of October (low season)

If it is a special occasion I would get reservations at ZoZos for the sunset, and get the bar seating in Jax. It is all the way upstairs and has a phenomenal view of the sunset.

Thank you both. This weekend we are picking out our villa & hoping for no hurricanes or stormy weather in Oct. If we do we will still be in beautiful St. John !!
