Now i've done my research and came up with 2 beaches that are 'kind of' nude beaches. Salomon Beach at St. johns, and Little Magen's Bay beach, St. Thomas. Now i know it is illegal to be nude, but I was wondering how strictly it is enforced, because I've heard both. I'd just want to go topless. I have before in Mexico, and i know gravity takes place and all, but the 60 year old men I saw had things hanging that shouldn't have been hangin in certain places...Whew!

So, anyways, i'm just wondering if I'm gonna get slapped with a ticket or a warning for having my little boobies out, thats all! I'm not going to be running up and down the beach screaming 'We're going streaking!!' or anything, I just like even tans, thats all!

Thanks, I am leaving this weekend, please help!

Avoid little salomon... it is patrolled and you may get a ticket. Little meagans is no problem though. I had not even gotten out of the water from swimming (gigantic mistake) to little meagans from meagans when I was offered marijuana and sex. Turned right around and swam back. There were probably a dozen people there nude.

Regardless of what you've heard about the past, Salomon is not a nude beach, so please don't try it there. If going topless is that important to you, then I suggest you find another island where it isn't illegal. Salomon has definitely been establishing a reputation as a family beach, and I think it is rude to offend people who have taken the hike all the way there and probably don't want to have to leave.

I've been to Salomon roughly 6 times over the past 4 years, and I've only seen topless women once...they were European and had a "screw you" attitude toward the families who were on the beach...it was extremely rude.

If going topless is your thing, then by all means, find an island where such things are allowed. But please don't do it on STJ.

Have to agree with :). Personally, I don't think nudity at the beach is a big deal. It doesn't bother me one way or another, but it may bother others, especially those with young ones. It's rude and an imposition to them. And please don't think that it's their problem, as some have suggested in other threads on this topic. It's your problem, cause after all, you're the one breaking the law. The way I figure it, if I'm visiting someone else's island (or country or whatever), I should comply with their laws whether I agree with them or not. That's just part of being a good neighbor in the global sense.

As an alternative, give St Martin a try. It's a beautiful island and virtually every beach is topless.

Just my $.02.

Ha ha ha ha! That's funny Kristy! I would be really &*%@ if I were on the beach with my kids (where there should be no baba's flying )and they were a fly'n anyway. I won't go to St. Martin for that reason. I'm not a prude but there is a place for that and the usvi isn't one of them. Even on Jost they don't encourage that. The bartender at Soggy $ told me they try to keep the nudies away from the front of their place because of all the families that come in on charters.

Public nudity is prohibited anywhere in the VI. No distinctiion made between being nude on a beach or being nude in Cruz Bay. This doesn't surprise me, as public nudity is also forbidden here in Massachusetts where we live.
Best strategy is to find a villa that affords you enough privacy to dress as you wish.

Yeah, the villa idea is probably the best one for those who would like to sunbathe nude on St John. There are definitely times in the off-season during the week that you will have a beach to yourself and can probably get naked...before 9-10am is best for that. However, you never know when someone is going to show up. One thing to keep in mind is that the locals are actually pretty modest people. Walking around in town without at least a cover-up, and preferably normal clothes is frowned upon. Again, the villa idea is a good one. You could probably run around your villa naked all day and nobody would notice, haha.

Hey Crystal, I agree that a villa is the best place for nude sun time. However , you say the locals are pretty modest, maybe the local Muslim ladies. I guess you didn't see the most recent segment of "College Hill" on BET TV. I was shocked by the behavior of local girls on that show. I think it shoots down the "modest islanders" at least in the 20 something generation.

I always find it's the folks with the worst bodies that show up nude, kind of nasty looking. Yuck!! Maybe it's my bad luck.

Whatever is going on with College Hill may not necessarily reflect the local Virgin Islanders. It is a show about some of the students in the school (UVI), not the island. Students from all over (Caribbean islands and elsewhere) are on that show. It is intended to shock and amuse like-minded college students.

I have never seen the show. But, I've heard about the UVI being selected as a school to be filmed and featured.

Here is the list of current girls and guys being featured as cast on the show's UVI segments - only 2 STX and one is from STT - the others are not Virgin Islanders:

Willie -- 22, Los Angeles, CA, International Marketing
Krystal -- 23, Laguna Hills, CA, Broadcast Communications
Jaron “JT” -- 20, Los Angeles, CA, Music
Fallon -- 21, Inglewood, CA, Communications
Devon “Chicky” -- 21, St. Thomas, V.I., Business Administration/CIS
Idesha -- 21, St. Kitts, Nevis, Biology
Andres -- 21, St. Croix, V.I., Business
Vanessa -- 22, St. Croix, V.I., Psychology

Islanders are modest. When did you last sit on a VI beach and see island women parading in bikinis?

They are certainly not topless on any of the beaches.

Salomon is cleaning up. Little Magens is a gay/nude beach. There's no option - other than villas.

I read somewhere that many locals young and old were upset by the behavior of one of the VI girls on the first show of the season.

I watched and was more taken with the difference between the island kids and the LA kids. The islands kids seemed more polite and focused, but the show has no continuity and is difficult to follow. Mostly done to exploit. Thats too bad, it could be interesting if not so edited.

Whoaaah, calm down now, I'm not dieing to be nekkid, believe me. I'm from outside of Philly and am ready for an even tan, thats all! i'd never ever go nude even if i saw anyone under 21, and if they frowned upon me. I think thats completely rude and ignorant. I don't even want people looking at me really, I'll just be with a friend and we want a spot away from people where we have some sort of privacy if we were to be topless, not people like 10 feet away staring. Not a fan of creepers! Thanks to those who confirmed. I can't wait! My flight leaves in a few hours! Thanks again!
