Are there any nude beaches in St. Thomas or St. John?

Not 'legally', but there are several where it is 'accepted'...Little Magens (Platform) on STT and Solomon on STJ...but I wouldn't get too excited....not many people will shed their clothes here, and the ones that do, ya kinda wish they would cover up...JMO, Mind you....and if a Ranger shows up, he CAN ticket you, as it IS illegal...but you can find lots of secluded beaches where there are no people and you can shed your clothes...or, rent a boat and hit one of the islands so you are the only one there....what you wear doesn't matter if you're the only one there! Haha!

Watch out for tickets from the Park Rangers on Salomon - $50! They'll go by in the boat and have a ranger walk down with the ticket book.

Kiddel Bay and Grootpan Bay are locals' hangouts on St. John. Kiddel is not in the National Park and the left side of Grootpan is outside the park as well. There are some houses on Kiddel, so be respectful and discrete. Bring a chair, its a rocky beach.

That being said, the Virgin Islands in general are not friendly to the naturist. Poolside at the villa is the best place to work on the tan lines.

Cheers, RickG

Actually, none of the beaches I have visited in the USVI's were wearing any clothes. All I saw was a bunch of sand, water and pebbles. Oh, and the occassional vegetation. Good luck trying to find a non-nude beach there......:-)

Bert, that's why I'm always careful to bring a neat sheet with me. It's not for my comfort, it's because all that naked sand looks a little chilly. 😀

Where's Pia when we need her? I think she knows the answer to this question.

The answer is: There are no nude beaches in the USVI. Public nudity is illegal. Period.

I'm here, I'm here 🙂 but you didn't really need me - EE is right, no nude beaches (even topless is illegal) in the VI's - it is a ticketable offense and they have been very good at finding the very few people that have tried it this year. I like to think people who visit the islands respect the local culture and laws and don't just do as they please 🙂

If people are looking to go topless or nude I recommend St Maarten 🙂

I would think that for a visitor to have to go to the STT courthouse to pay a $50 ticket for public nudity would be a bit of a downer. As Pia points out, it's quite a cultural taboo apart from the illegality aspect. A lesson in teeth-sucking would be quickly learned! Cheers with humour!

This is just an observation and I'm not lashing out at anyone. I LOVE THE U.S.V.I'S I find it interesting that sunbathing topless or nude is illegal but other things go by that seem much worse.

While visiting Coki Point there were at least a dozen people (which appeared to be locals) smoking & selling pot. We were offered joints by two beach waiters.

Do you think more people would visit if there were places for nude sunbathing? I would never sunbathe nude - look what happened to that couple in Dubai 😎

In response to your question about whether more people would visit the USVI if there were places for nude sunbathing, I would have to answer no. It's probably one of the most infrequently asked questions on the majority of travel forums.

I would love to see more of a clamp-down on Coki's pot-selling hawkers.
