St John is beautiful but you may want to stay on STT since you just have one day. Feel free to brouse this map of things to do on STT---

What should we do if we stay in St Thomas? Do you think both can be done in one day?

Tough choices when you only have 8 hours to enjoy USVI. Travel time makes it really difficult to have a worthwhile experience on both St Thomas and St John. I would stay on St Thomas

8-11am: Magens Bay Beach with a stop at Drakes Seat for a photo-op on the way
11-1:30pm: Lunch at Fungi near Point Pleasant, or Molly Malones in Red Hook at American Yacht Harbor.
1:30-3pm: Shopping in Charlotte Amalie
3pm - 4pm: Cocktails close to the docks, celebrating a full and fun day, promising to spend a whole week on-Island during your next visit.

Thank you! So I guess we need to choose one but it is so hard. They both seem beautiful and we will definitely have to come again for a longer time so we can experience everything. We are taking a tour of St Maarten the following day which includes shopping and a beach day so looking for a little more adventure or something different. What would you do if you spent the day in St John?

I would take the ferry to St. John and rent a car. Try Cool Breeze Car Rental. It is close to the ferry dock. Drive around on your own, spend time on one or two beaches, have lunch in Coral Bay at Skinnly Legs. The scenery on St. John is absolutely beautiful. You will want to return. Are you coming off of a cruise ship? If so, they may have a group going to St. John. They do this all the time. But, just exploring on your own could be more fun. Although, all of this would take some good coordination and no missing the ferry, etc. when it is time to go back. In my opinion a day on St. John way beats a day on St. Thomas. You will want to return.

Ok so I think we are just going to stay in STT this time and need some advice on where to go, what to see ect.. I am thinking Megan bay first for an hour or two.. Go grab some lunch somewhere.. maybe head to secret harbour.. Then around Charlotte Amelia before headed back on the cruise ship at 3.. where should we grab lunch? Any other place we should try to go to? Would just taking taxi's be ok?

I say head to Magens Bay early in the morning. We did this when we were there (Feb 2010), and is was not crowded at all at that time of day. Then head over to Coki Point Bay and have lunch from the turquoise van (looks like an ice cream truck) that's sitting on the beach. Jerk chicken sandwich is AMAZING! Best food we had on STT. Have a rum and banana from Sasha...a super fun waitress that works that beach. Then check out Sapphire Beach. You will have to taxi between these beaches, but that's easy to do.
