Looks like it is less $$ to book separate post Easter week airfare from NYC to SJU then from SJU to STT via Caribbean Sun vs. AA all the way thru. Thinking about leaving day earlier, over nighting in San Juan, then out next day at 8am, yielding full first day in ST and over to SJ. Those of you who have over-nighted in San Juan, any recommendations for reasonable clean room near SJU airport?

Please be sure to have some place to go if you are staying overnight in San Juan. Last summer we had an overnight layover, but delays out of JFK left us only 4 and a half hours. Not enough time to warrant a room. I wanted to go to Isla Verde and walk around but my less-than-daring boyfriend was a tad concerned about venturing out to the unknown San Juan highlights at 2 am. Sticking around SJU overnight was an abysmal experience. They wouldn't allow us down to the gate area and there is absolutely no place to sit otherwise. We walked around, sat on walls, on steps, on the floor. Thankfully we knew St. Thomas and the beach were just a few hours away.

I wouldnt do that without reservations. That is what I was asking for - recomendations for where to make a reservation for reasonable price near airport. Then I would notify of late arrival and hold with ccard if delayed.
