I am interested in purchasing a 42' or 46' boat with the sole intent of keeping it moored on STJ full time as a vacation home for my family and friends. I just got off the phone with DPNR and after getting transferred to 6 different departments was told there are currently no open spaces on STJ. I asked if there was a waiting list and was told I could apply for a spot and if it came open I could get it. I would need to have the boat registered in the USVI before being able to apply however. Also I need to indicate the spot I want on the application. This information doesn't seem to make sense to me, how can I register the boat in the USVI when I have nowhere to put it and how can I apply for a spot when it's not available?

Can anyone help me? Does anyone know of someone thinking of vacating a spot?

If you're interested in a mooring on St Thomas I could PM you with the information.

We are in the process of a major boating shake-up on STT, with DPNR moving all live-aboards and moored boats out of the protected areas. This outflux, coupled with the shortage of moorings and the reluctance of DPNR to grant mooring permits, makes for a real problem mooring a boat at this time.

Didn't know about that. I plan on heading down in February to check things out and will be looking at villas as well.

Thanks for the info.

fishy1, there is some general information on marinas and anchorage sites and some other related topics on the Marina Page of this site.
