At last, we have just one day to go! I just wanted to thank everyone for the great info provided on this forum. And yes, we all have our passports! I started packing last night and my husband and I were able to fit all of our clothing into one small suitcase. My daughter....well, she wouldn't listen and packed everything she owns. Luckily it's a medium sized suitcase (I eventually convinced her not to bring so much). I had decided early on to pack some food for our trip. My mother said, "forget it, we're on vacation!" I didn't listen. I know that we will be eating out for most of our meals but I knew I would like a cup of coffee in the morning and a light snack here and there. Well, before I knew it I had a fairly large suitcase with snacks. I'm not sure how all of you weigh your luggage but I tried to place the case on the scale with no such luck! Due to its large size it wouldn't stay balanced so being the "smart" person I am I got on the scale and picked up this mammoth case nearly breaking my back. A couple of motrin and an icy/hot patch later I thought to myself I hope this is worth it! I can hear my mother now..."I told you not to bring it." Anyways the weight was teetering between 50-52 so I spent some time trying to reduce the weight....it's a work in progress. Our limo is picking us up at my mothers house at 4am and then we head to Logan for our 6:20 flight to San Juan and then to St. Thomas. I laugh when I think of the sidekicks that we rented. I know that we will be making quite a few trips to get our luggage to the villa. But you know what? I'm on vacation for the next 14 days and I'm definitely going to enjoy it no matter what! St. John Here I come!!!!!!!!

Darlene and those with young female teens....send them to Europe! After sending our kids to see friends in Europe, and them trying to pack every piece of clothing (not to meniton the 6-10 pair of shoes!) they had...they learned really quick on how to pack. Not to mention the cultural experience they had! Now they (yea girls!) can fit everything they need in a large backpack. It's too funny!

So true! My daughter had 5 different bathing suits!

So, I will summarize the beginning of our journey and include some pics.

How it all started: Last year (Feb 06) my mother took my husband and I on a cruise that sailed from NY to the Caribbean. One of our stops was St. Thomas. At this point I had never been to the Caribbean and knew very little about the islands. I was in charge of picking the excursions. So, for St. Thomas I picked the Trunk Bay excursion on St. John. It was then that I decided that I would return to St. John. The planning had started as soon as I got back.

I spent about 6-8 months searching online for a villa. I knew I couldn't afford 10,000 a week and that I could afford between 3,000-3500 a week especially if I invited some of my family to join me. I really couldn't find just what I wanted considering I knew so little about the island having been there only for such a short time. I decided to search for Real Estate agents and St. John Properties popped up so I gave them a call. I spoke with BJ and told her what I wanted and immediately she recommended Glenmar. I said ok and sent her the deposit shortly there after. I really felt comfortable with her and trusted her. Why? I don't know..just one of those things. By the time things got going we had a group of six. My daughter (14) my husband, mother, aunt, uncle, and myself. We decided to stay 10 days. June 22-July 1. We got up really early, headed over to my mom's where we all met to the take the limo to Logan International Airport, Boston, MA. We had a great flight with a stop-over in San Juan then to St. Thomas. All smooth and then the ferry. Once we arrived we went straight to Conrads to get the cars (vitara's) and head to the villa on Gift Hill. The cars proved to be a great choice we were able to fit the six of us fine and our luggage. Their small size proved to be valuable as we were able to park in most spots where others couldn't and they already had plenty of dents and dings so we blended in fine. I told my husband I would never rent anything nice...too scary! Saw two accidents while we were there. One happened right in front of us in Conrad's Lot. I still can't believe what I saw. That's another story. The other accident we saw was around a sharp turn going up Gift Hill. Considering the reaction of the people in the vehicle that got hit (minor damage) we then knew that we could not and would not get in an accident here if we valued our lives. Anyways.. the villa was perfect! I didn't even think it was going to be as nice as it was. We loved it!!!!!
