It seems we have a bit of a problem. Our group has traditionally used Freddie at Dynamic Tours to get us from the airport to Red Hook but for whatever reason this year he indicates that he is "closed" between 5pm Friday and 7pm Saturday. That seemed very odd since I would have thought that this would be their busiest time as folks come down typically from Sat to Sat for their vacations.

Has anyone heard anything about STT cracking down on these private taxis? I remember last year the public taxi companies were raising a stink about companies like this taking business from them. I was curious to see if STT put some sort of restriction in place on certain times they can't operate.

My conspiracy theory aside....does anyone have any other good recommendations for private taxi companies to get us from STT to Red Hook to catch the ferry. We don't like using the "group" taxis since they make too many stops and usually wait until they are full before leaving. We arrive at 12:10 and would love to be able to catch the 1pm ferry to STJ.

Hi lbrlwyr,
I've used Freddie for the past 4yrs. He has always been "closed" during those times. I think Sat. is church day for him instead of Sun. On one occasion I has a friend joining us who had to travel on a Sat. and he made arrangements with one of his friends( who also runs a taxi service) to transport her. Call and speak with him about it, he may "sub" out the job to someone else or make a recommendation for you.

We've never used a private taxi, but do have a bit of experience with the public taxis. In all of the times we've taxied to RH, there was only one time when the van was dropping off people at one of the resorts along the way. And we sort of enjoyed that---being able to see another part of STT. We've also never had to wait very long for a van to fill and be ready to take off. Of course since we have nowhere that we have to be by any particular time for a week or two, we're certainly in no hurry. We've met some great people on the vans who were just as excited about being in the VI as we were.

In fact, if we miss a ferry, it really doesn't bother us. Another will come and it gives us time to sip a Carib and check out the scene at the ferry dock. We've stopped rushing and have begun shifting onto Island Time.
