Hey all...
I am flying into St. Thomas...flight gets there at 2:45 pm. We are staying on STJ. When does that last ferry run? Will this give us enough time to catch a ferry over to STJ? Please let me know!! THanks

We flew in to ST. Thomas at 2:15 and had plenty of time to catch the ferry over to St. John. Even with the delay in the ferry taking off, we were in St. John by 5. I would highly recommend taking Dohm's water taxi. The ferry was not much fun. We took the pravate taxi back.

I'm pretty certain the ferries run well past nightfall/dinnertime. There's a link towards the top of these pages that I think will give all ferry schedules. I don't think you'll have any problem getting to St. John from a flight arriving mid-afternoon.

FWIW, we always just do the "mini-van taxi" thing to Red Hood and take that ferry over, since they leave every hour (as opposed to a bit less frequently from Charlotte Amalie). But I'm sure it is more comfortable and convenient to hire a private water taxi.

Lynds,
Ferries run from Red Hook at 3:00, 5:00 & 7:00, so even if you miss the 5:00 one (which I think is unlikely if you don't sit around the airport after your flight) you'll still be able to catch the 7:00. I'm excited that my flight lands on STT at 2:15... to me that's early enough to stll have some daylight when we get to STJ. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Only problem could be if one of your flights is delayed for a few hours... which can never be helped.

The last people ferry leaves Red Hook at midnight for St John, but the last car ferry leaves at 7:00 pm 🙂

If you are meeting a villa representative, make sure you advise them when and how you expect to arrive and get an after hours contact number. Some are better than others about meeting you for 'late' arrival.

Water Taxi? Tell me about this. Can you book them in advance and what are the specifics?

Hi Crickett,
Just to let you know the ferries run on the hour, every hour until midnight from Red Hook to STJ - not just 3pm, 5pm & 7pm - so you'll be able to catch the 4pm if you miss the 3pm not have to wait until 5pm 🙂

Here is the website for the Water Taxi: http://www.watertaxi-vi.com/

It can get pricey, and they don't quote any prices online - because their prices are based on YOUR choice of trip. They base their price quote on your itenerary and times.

FWIW, the ferries aren't all THAT bad - unless you happen to be traveling at a time when people are commuting to/from work. If you take the ferry from Charlotte Amalie, you can get a nice view of the island if you decide to sit on the top deck.
