Back from our 1 week in paradise, and as usual it went by far too quickly. No problems on our arrival from Philly other than a longer than usual wait for our luggage. But it finally made it, and off we went in our rental van ( there were 6 adults) to the villa we rented in Harmony Estates. The house was nice although the road to it was very challenging.
First stop was Duffy's for happy hour, then we dined at Toad and Tart after hearing many good things about it. Dinners were good although some in our group got the prime rib and they were disappointed since their prime rib was much smaller than the steak at our neighbors table. They were "locals" hmmmm.
Sunday we went to Molly Malone's for breakfast and rum punch. Spent the day at Sapphire Beach, which was lovely. Even though they don't have the bar area open the food was excellent at the little stand/grill in between the buildings. The drinks were wonderful and bigger and cheaper than those sold over near the old bar area.

We dined at Hook, line and Sinker that evening and I had a great almond crusted yellow tail that was delicious. I believe we did Megans Bay on Monday, went left to avoid the crowds and had a great time, although a few clouds rolled in, which doesn't help in the quest for the perfect tan. Went on a mission that night to find Latitude 18, no problem finding it and had a wonderful burger with olive tapenade, enjoyed that while listening to a jazz band who had a great latin female singer. I can't for the life of me remember what beach we landed on for Tues, but I'm sure it was fun LOL .
Drove up to Paradise Point for dinner on Tues, awesome views and the food was decent. Too bad they aren't open later in the evening, ( they close at 8pm), but I could see why they don't want "drunk "drivers driving down that steep hill.
Wed, we went to Bolongo Bay and were disappointed in that there were many small /large stones on the beach u had to get past. But I had the best lunch of their pulled pork sandwich with a rum barbecue sauce. Will have to try and duplicate that at home. That evening we tried Tickes, Dockside Pub, and were not disappointed. Great atmosphere and it's nice to sit and look out over the large yachts in the marina. Causes one to dream, "if only"........

Thursday took the ferry to St John, then took a taxi ( since our car couldn't come with us) to Cinnamon Bay which is my "new" favorite beach. I could have stayed there forever. Woodys for happy hour, then to the restaurant/bar right next to the ferry for more happy drinks. Managed to find our way to the Fish Trap for the unlimited shrimp for dinner, I had the blackened which I enjoyed. We also got the $21.00 pitcher of rum punch which must have had about 10 kinds of rum in it, Somehow we found the ferry back to STT.

Friday we went to Coki Beach but we renamed it "drugi" beach. Many local;s just hanging around especially at the end past the food places going in and out of the buildings many times. Plus there were cats all over the place and the chair I rented smelled of "you know what". I did get it exchanged cus it was disgusting. I'm betting that beach is a giant litter box when people aren't there. The last time we went to that beach we had a great time , there were lots of drink samples and people selling their wares. Didn't see that this time. Did some snorkeling there and saw some a few interesting fish along the reef. Treated ourselves to dinner at Oceana, which didn't disappoint. Beautiful setting and my salmon was perfect. All good things must come to an end, so we always kill time at the Emerald Beach resort next to the airport where we grab our last few minutes of sun and eat lunch there, while saying goodbye to the turquoise water.

Sat at the hot, stuffy crowded STT airport for 2/1/2 hours then off to San Juan. Our 1 hour between planes turned into 3 hours due to Friday's snowstorm which had a ripple event on flights up north. We were fortunate in that the pilot told us we were the first flight out of san Juan to arrive in Philly in 3 days. It could have been a lot worse. Had to scrape snow and ice off the car, hmmmm, don't remember having to do that in STT. WE had a fabulous time, hope this helps some of you lucky people who still have their trip to look forward too. The anticipation is almost as good as the trip!!!!
BTW I had asked before in a previous post about extra insurance and just wanted to let u know that for peace of mind we did purchase the extra, didn't have any accidents, ( thank goodness) but did develop a leaking tire ( had a nail in it) so instead of spending our vacation time fixing it, Hertz just replaced our van ( and this one had more power which was great).
I also had inquired about bringing "spirits" back and wanted to let all of you know that we each brought a box ( 6 bottles) in those Kmart boxes, sealed them with tape, and only one of them was opened by customs ( I suppose). Nothing was missing and nothing got broken. WE also wrapped 2 of the more expensive bottles in bubble wrap then nested them in our suitcases and they arrived home in one piece also. So the partying will continue!!!!!!!

There are two prime rib cuts at The Toad and Tart on Saturday nights and your neighboring diners probably ordered the larger cut. T and T doesn't discriminate in the least between "locals" and tourists where either quality or quantity is concerned. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

Question for you how come you could take your car on the car ferry? I think Hertz says they don't have roadside assistance over there but you can still take it over there.

Yes Oceana is one of my favorites, Patricia does an amazing job and the atomosphere is just perfect. Pricey but perfect.

And I have to agree with STT Resident Toad and Tart would never discriminate against a tourist, that doesn't happen anywhere on island. I actually find just the opposite at some other places where I find it hard to get a drink when tourists pack the bar even if I know the bartender. They think ahh he is local he has patience. But Anna at Toad and Tart treats everyone like family, and yes her food is excellent home cooking.

Glad to hear the booze made it back safely, many visitors are reluctant to bring back booze now since they think they have to check it and it will break. Even though I know it won't break because they take good care of it, but you know some people they think they know everything, when in fact I do know everything. 😉

Since we rented our car from Hertz we couldn't take it on the car ferry. We had to use a taxi on STJ . And thanks for the feedback on the Toad and Tart, what we did have was very tasty, I don't want to give people the wrong idea. We did enjoy it there.

I think that about every trip we take. I try to have another trip in the works before we leave. Then I have another one to plan when we return. Thanks for the great report. KK
