Do some/all of the STT-STJ car ferries still accept each others round trip tickets? We were last on the islands ~4 years ago, and I recall being able to use my ticket with any ferry.

Also, is there always a major traffic jam near the cruise ship dock in the afternoon? I think it took us ~1.5 hours to get from the airport to red hook last time, and we'll have a 2 year old with us this time so I'd like to avoid a repeat.. Would we be better off driving around the north side of STT?

Thanks,
Andrew

No, no one accepts each others tickets - best to buy a one way 🙂

Airport to Red Hook via the Northside /-/ on the top of the mountain -- is Always quicker and more scenic - why go through town , Havensite, Ft. Mylner etc if you don't have to - unless it is including a Costuless stop and even that is very easy -[ at the Donoe bypass go down and then back up after shopping.]

The biggest traffic jam in Red Hook is just past the ferry where there is road work - just before Sapphire Beach. Since you have been here, new ferry facilities with ample parking and business in the USVI is way down - so no real traffic. I believe the tickets for ferry are reciprocal, but check further. Rules do change. Also ferry goes into a different part of Cruz Bay - without adequate signs to get you back to the ferry. Get directions. It's a loopy way back in. Not so bad leaving ferry. Very different finding ferry again to go back to Red Hook!

profjudi: I haven't been in that direction for about a week but have to in the next day or so, so what's the road work being done by Sapphire? No, the ferry tickets aren't reciprocal (as Pia noted earlier). Cheers!
