12 days to go!!!!!

Any chance that parking lot/garage that is under construction for the Red Hook ferry dock will be done in the next two weeks?

We are staying on the East End of STT but plan on taking the passenger ferry back and forth to STJ and staying for dinner and into the evening on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We have a rental car on STT and don't plan on taking it on the car ferry.(We actually rented a jeep for one day on STJ) I read on the board that most people are parking up and down the road or at a school lot. Since it will be dark when we come back I am not sure if walking down the road back to the car is such a good idea. Are there street lights on that road? (I do carry a flashlight in my purse)

Is there usually a large group of people that come back on the later ferries so you are safe or is there a good chance we would be by ourselves?

How early in the morning would you have to take the ferry to get a close spot on the road?

Otherwise how much should the taxi charge from Cabrita Point to the ferry dock be per person?

I read that one couple who stayed at the Ritz paid $20 one way to get from there to Red Hook. Is that the rate? It's not that far on a map so it seems like they got ripped off. That would add up to $120 in taxi fees for us. For $120 my husband may just want to swim from Cabrita Point to the ferry dock and he is afraid to do the night snorkel. LOL

Note: We are not staying at the Ritz but a condo across from it.

Thanks for any advise.

Ohhh...hahahaha.....Sorry, but excuse me while I clutch my sides.
Unfortunately the construction will still be under construction, but they are making huge strides.
You'll be able to park on the road and probably within at least a quarter of a mile in either direction. A lot of people get on the early ferries to go to St John to go to work so they get there really early and get the closest spots.
You shouldn't have any problems with walking back to your car after coming off of one of the later ferries. The road is pretty well lit, especially if you park along the road towards the high school. To the west of the ferry dock is usually much more populated than in the other direction. There always seem to be plenty of people wandering around Red Hook.
I don't know how much a taxi per person would be from where you're staying, but from about 2-ish miles away from the ferry dock it costs around 8 dollars per person.

I have parked my car on the street there in Red Hook overnight without any incident YET - so yes, it's safe enough. Friends who live on their boats in the harbor also park their cars there as well.

The taxi fare from Secret Harbour to Red Hook is $5 for 2 or more people, and the Ritz isn't that much farther - so kate's estimate of $8 PP sounds about right. Maybe the taxi driver figured because the people were staying at the Ritz that they could afford $20....theives! 😉

A word of caution! Don't park overnight in the garage under American Yacht Harbor or across the street in Red Hook Plaza's lot. Both have security that can get...erm....testy. It would be a bummer to get a rental car towed whilst on vacation.
