Which car rental agencies on STT allow their vehicles to be taken to STJ?
{I know this has been posted, but couldn't find...}

TIA

dependable worked for us in 2008. Using them again this year too.

It was nice to pack once on STT and not have to drag stuff the whole way to STJ in a cab...etc...etc.

But I know some prefer to rent on STJ...to each their own...

Keep in mind your arrival day and time on STT.

I believe there are 3 car ferries, and none of them run at night between STT and STJ. The last schedule is around 6 or 6:30 pm, and you have to be at the dock at least 15 to 20 minutes before departure.

If your flight arrives in the late afternoon, you will have to allow for luggage at the airport, getting to the rental agency (paperwork), and getting to the ferry dock. Traffic can be at a snail's pace.

Also, not all the car ferries run on the weekend, so if you are arriving on Saturday or Sunday, you may be limited to only one.

Just so you know, Dependable closes at 5 pm sharp!
Nothing bad to say about them!

Also, Amalie car rental rents a lot of vehicles that go to STJ.....no smoking!

Hertz I believe is the only one that does not allow their cars to STJ - don't rely on all ferries being up and running (we just got one back in service after it was off for about 4 months)

Thanks for the follow-up responses.

We arrive on a Friday about 3PM - so that should be enough time to get to the car ferries (and hopefully enough time to buy some supplies on the way to RedHook).
Dependable's rate was $747 (incl taxes and internet discount) for 2 weeks for a Jeep Wrangler 2Dr (there are just 2 adults).

Question - what is the best route to get from STT to RH? I have taken a taxi there 2 times and notice that they got there uses to different routes - what is the best route late on a Friday afternoon? How about from STT to K-Mart to RH (if we have time)?

Thanks - I already saw the google map and figured out where KMart was on the route from STT to RH.

From STT go thru CA to Long Bay - left on Rumner Dr (Rt 313) - then up Rt 38 to Tutu Park Mall (KMart) on left - then follow Rt 32 to RH.

Does one pick/choose which car barge to take at RH? (there seem to be 3 to choose from) Or does one just take what is available?
Are they all at the same location in RH?

I have taken the public ferry 3 times, but never paid attention to the car barge.
Where does to the car barge drop you off in STJ? (Enighed Pond?)

We just got back from St. John and rented from Amalie Rental in STT. The whole experience was unbelievable - we were met at the airport with my name on a placard, and off we went. On the way back, they were at the luggage drop off waiting for us and helped w/out luggage.
This rental company is excellent and well worth the price. We had no problem w/ the barge at red Hook and even stopped and shopped for food.

Thanks.
We went with Dependable - I will post my experience.
I write trip reports posted on a different forum - so others have a comparison for expectations (important while travelling in places like the USVI).
