What is required to obtain a health card and how long until you actually get one in your hand. I was told they need a stool sample? At Schneider Hospital? Is that on the 2nd floor?
thanks

Check out the relocation message board (click above to the right) as this gets discussed fairly frequently. Besides, sounds like you are moving here and might need some moving advice. 😉

Yes! We are already here! I was thinking of taking a safari bus into town to the Schneider Hospital to get my health card today. We are living at Point Pleasant. Do you see a problem with that. Taking the bus that is? If it doesn't rain too much.
And I found out the Hospital stops taking applicants for health cards a 2:45pm but forgot to ask what time they open?????

I just called the hospital and the health card times are: 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm!!!!!!!!!!

You will have to take the Safari bus into Tutu Mall and then change Safari bus to take the one into downtown. The one that stops along Smith Bay Road does a circle going into Redhook and then returning to Tutu Mall.

You do not have to change at Tutu to get to town, unless that driver just doesn't want to go to town for some reason. Most make the entire loop. Just ask before you get on to make sure.

Once you get the paperwork and the bottle from Schneider for your stool sample, you have to take the sample to a lab for testing. They used to recommend the one across the street in Paragon building or somewhere like that, because it's a little cheaper than hospital lab. You may or may not be able to get it back same day depending on how busy they are. I've forgotten what the testing fee is.

Then you take it back to Schneider for your photo and card.

The quickest way I've found to do it is to first go to the lab behind the hospital early in the morning with your stool sample in a small container. If they can do it within the parameters of the time the hospital clinic is doing the health cards then you just take the path report to the hospital, fill out the form, give it to them along with the path report and hope they can complete it that day.
