Hey all--

I have been reading the posts on restaurants. We will be down to STT next week and we will be eating at some of the more well known places-- Old Stone Farmhouse, Banana Tree Grille, etc.

I want to try a place where there is some good local food. I am interested in the food, not necessarily the view. I have seen Fungi's mentioned on the forum. Is that good local food? Any other ideas? Anything off the beaten path?

Thanks for any ideas offered!

rhonda

Gladys's in Royal Dane Mall -- Cuzzins on Back Street - Victors Hideout in upper subbase are three that come to mind - all offer good West Indian style cuisine.

I would suggest that you go to Robert's. Not a local spot but very good.

Rhonda,

Fungi's is worth stopping by for some good local food. Don't forget to order extra Johnny cakes.

Have a great Trip!

Cuzzins on Back Street in town...fabulous lunches and dinners, homemade soups, I love the mutton stew but the creole shrimps mke it a hard choice what to order...don't like the fungi but the potato salad and coleslaw are terrific. Try the soursop juice (it is NOT sour), it is a taste of paradise !!

There is a great little bar in Havensight that makes the BIGGEST and best burritos you will ever have...cheap too! I swear it was just about as big as my arm! I split it with my husband who happens to be a big eater. I am sorry but it was 2 years ago that we were there and I can't remember the name of the bar. Can anyone help me out here?

I second Cuzzin's. If you want to try conch, yum! Also the best chicken soup you will ever have. Lots of local drinks to try.

2beachbums: The place in Havensight WAS Charlotte Tamales. Closed and not really local food.
