Greetings from Chicago!
I am getting married on a Saturday next month in St. Thomas. After the ceremony we have chartered a Heavenly Days sunset cruise at Bolongo Bay. Following that we would like to treat our 11 guests to dinner where they can just order off a menu. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good restaurant within walking distance of Bolongo? Does this even exist? Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Also if anyone has any "must-sees" we can pass on to our guests during their stay, that would be great too!

Many, Many thanks!

Lacey

Walking distance from Bolongo - nothing! Does not exist!

My restaurant suggestion for your wedding group, hands-down, is Banana Tree Grille at Bluebeards Castle.

Liz and Jerry Buckalew have run this establishment for well over two decades at the same location and, most important, the restaurant not only commands an awesome overview of downtown Charlotte Amalie and the main WICO cruise ship dock at Havensight but Chef Patrick has been with them for at least 20 years and runs an awesomely tight ship where food is concerned.

I own and operate a restaurant on STT and care very much about food and service and am VERY picky about where I go to eat on my time-outs. Banana Tree (formerly Entre Nous) would be the perfect choice for your wedding party. The food, ambience and service are non-pareil and the prices are very reasonable.

I've just finished up a long tiring night at my place and need to retire in short shrift but do check them out on a Google (they have a website) and if you think they might suit, be sure to call in advance and ask for a "harbourview table.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Best wishes on your upcoming marriage.

Right next door from Bolongo at Watergate Villas is Mim's Seaside Bistro. Nice menu & good food. Within walking distance & right on the water. Their website is down when I just tried it but check below.

Banana Tree Grille is outstanding for service and food. Last year, I called ahead for reservations and let them know that I was bringing my husband for his birthday. I can not say enough about the excellent service and what they did for us to celebrate. The view was incredible, the table was decorated and the wait staff very attentive but not obtrusive. The drinks and food were great. I would be extremely surprised if you were disappointed. Be sure to call ahead because they do get busy.

Congratulations!

I personally did not care for my meal at Banana Tree Grill when we ate there. My lobster bisque was too rich, and I didn't care for the sushi. Also, at night you can not see out of the "windows" , they were covered and flapped in the breeze. One of our favorite meals on St Thomas was at Virgilio's. We also liked Blue Moon Cafe for ambience on the sea. Our other favorite restaurants are on St john

Doesn't Bolongo have a few restaurants on-site? Or did they close?

Well it's not within walking distance, but we would HIGHLY recommend Robert's at the Elysian Beach Resort, Kevin and Lora do just an out standing job taking care of thier guests, and the meals we've had are some of the best on STT. Ooop's can't forget about Page, one of the best bartenders we've met on STT, serves a great drink and will keep you entertained.

Must see: Sunset Party at Paradise Point on Wednesday night, live music, good time. Be sure to stop in at the Pirate Chest.

Original poster Firefly (Lacey) hasn't posted back since the original post of April 20 so she may already have made her choice. However...

and with all due respect for Cara Tabatabal's negative post about Banana Tree Grille, she may well have been there during a "squall." During the rare occasions when a squall hits downtown Charlotte Amalie, restaurants such as Banana Tree Grille which are basically open on the front and sides but have a roof, go into Island Emergency Mode and roll down their flaps so that diners don't get drenched and thus the "view" is blocked.

I'm a bit confused about Cara T's food critique too. Lobster bisque IS very rich, period. And I don't recall "sushi" ever being on their menu but, if it were offered that night, I wouldn't go to a high-end restaurant which clearly specializes in American/Italian cuisine and all inbetween and order sushi. There are several restaurants on STT which promote sushi but I can assure you that Banana Tree Grille isn't generally one of them.

I hope too, Cara, that you nicely voiced your complaints to the management, hopefully at the time but, if not, later via email?

I stand by my recommendation of Banana Tree Grille for a small wedding party which wants to combine a great view, great food, impeccable service and a touch of elegance where dress is concerned. Cheers!

Our son was married at the Frenchman 2 years ago this week! We did the same--- except-- we did the dinner cruise the night before for a "rehearsal dinner". What memories you are about to make! We are still talking about how much fun we had! Restaurants... we never found a bad one in 5 trips to St. Thomas.

Mims would be perfect. We stayed in a condo at Watergate facing Mim's. Great view, very small right on the water open air. The guest book in our condo had very good reviews of the food. It was busy every night we were there until late. I would call ahead.

Mim's has always been one of our favorite restaurants - and it just steps away from Bolongo....right down the beach. It looks weird, tiny, and not much of anything during the day, but at night it does truly turn into a magical place. The food is great. The atmosphere is awesome.

Another good option is The Blue Moon Cafe - on site at Secret Harbor Resort. Also right on the beach with a beautiful sunset experience while dining. And the food is beyond compare...not to mention a great wine list and fun and helpful people working there.

Happy wedding!

Firefly: The only restaurants within walking distance are: Mim's, Iggie's and the Lobster Grill. The latter two are on Bolongo proper, Mim's is next door. Have a great time!
