Can anyone tell me what the average price of a meal is in a restaurant on a major hotel/resort property - a steak dinner or something like that. How about a price for an alcoholic beverage or glass of wine? Thanks for any input.

Sue:

Restaurant food prices on St Croix are comparable with what we pay in Chicago. Food is as good, but the service is much more leisurely (slow).

For instance at Cheeseburger in American Paridise their feature cheeseburger is priced at $8.50. At Duggan Reef entrees are usually priced in the $17 - $22 range. At a nice place with a couple of drinks expect to pay $40 per person.

Drinks aren't cheap, but many places pour them strong because booze is cheap in the VI. Beer is often a bargain. Many bars have happy hours.

Ooops - how about on St. Thomas? These prices don't sound too bad -at least not as bad as I thought it would be. Thanks again.

ShipWreck across from Havensight dock has a to-die-for $12.00 hamburger!

I work at the hospital here on St Thomas & it has a great breakfast & lunch for reasonable price ( I haven't eaten dinner there yet ) but for local cuisine it's a bargain! Yesterday for lunch I had a HUGE King fish fillet cooked local style with red peppers, onions, & seasonings, deep fried plantains, and Black Beans & rice. For breakfast today I had 4 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, 2 boiled eggs, and a bagel with cream cheese. Roy L Schneider cafeteria may be one of the best kept dining secrets on STT!

Hello ParrotHead,

I have heard the same great reviews about the good food at the hospital caf!!

Sue - depending on the restaurant/bar I estimate to expect anywhere from $12 to $70 for one person. $12 was a light bite with a soda at a quick bite type place. $70 nice sit down restaurant, appetizer, dinner, desert and 2 or 3 drinks maybe. Average between $35-$50 for nice setting and dinner/desert/drinks. Can be much more if you drink a lot.

I'm teling you the RLS hospital cafeteria has GREAT Caribbean food for a great price! I got a big King fish steak, plantains, & black beans & rice for $5.50, 34 ounce coke included! Last Friday at Coki I paid $10.50 for stewed chicken on rice & $3.50 for a Corona. RLS has a good cafeteria, good selection.

Great! Now I'll have to add the hospital to the 'to dine in' list. I work in a hospital here in Jersey and the food is nothing to brag about.
