ARE THERE ANY RESTAURANTS OR INTERESTING SIGHTS NEAR THE CRUSE SHIP AREAS? I DON'T WANT TO TAKE A TOUR BUT WOULD LIKE TO WANDER AROUND A LITTLE.

Yes but you will have to know which dock to get a good answer. Havensight or Crown Bay?

when did they open? They had their soft opening last night. Haven't heard about the hard opening yet other than sometime in December 2007.

Today is the Grand Opening. The VIP party last night was pretty good! Lots of TVs for sports. Nice atmosphere!!! Fast and friendly service!!

Hello Oz,

Cruise ships either dock at WICO dock in Havensight or at Crown Bay dock. They can also anchor in the harbor and passengers are tendered in to downtown Charlotte Amalie.

Havensight: there is a shopping area there, restaurants/bars, a couple attractions like a Butterfly farm and across the street from the shopping area is the starting point for the Paradise Point Tram. You could walk over to Yacht Haven Grande also; more shops, restaurants and a marina.

Crown Bay: there are a few shops right there. You could walk over to Crown Bay Marina and look around. Could walk to Lindberg Bay (Emerald Beach).

Charlotte Amalie: lots of shops, restaurants/bars, historic sites.

Havensight has a Butterfly Farm?? Where? Altho we have only been to STT once, I don't recall ever finding or hearing of a butterfly farm. I would *love* to see it.

Lady Blue,

Yes there is a Butterfly Farm, it opened this summer. It is located just down a bit from the shops within the Havensight dock/shopping area.

I looked for the butterfly farm when I was there in August and couldn't find it. OK, I didn't look really hard, nor did I ask anyone, but I had an eye out for it. I thought it would be behind building 3, but saw no sign of a sign or any other indication of its location. Can you give a clue, like in tourist mainlander kind of directions, about what is exactly meant by "just down a bit from the shops within the Havensight dock/shopping area?" 😉

Thanks.

Ok, better directions :).

There is a road that runs parallel to the cruise ship dock. The road has the dock/warehouses on one side, Point of Sale and Havensight Shopping Center on the other. The Butterfly Farm is along this road, toward the end of the cruise ship dock.

So if you were at the end of building 3 that is closest to the ships, you'd walk toward the ships, turn left on the road and walk toward the end of the dock. A couple minutes walk and the Butterfly Farm will be on your left. And on your right: a couple warehouses, stores and Paradise Gate.
