Rockworks is a very nice villa in an area of STT that is in a less populated area than most. That will be nice if you want to be away from the crowd. The villa must have been remodeled fairly recently becasuse the recent pics depict furnishings and decor that weren't in it when I saw it last.

There is another villa that is a sister to Rockworks (Stone Cottage) that sits below and aside Rockworks, but with privacy afforded via foilage and positioning.
These two share the same entry gate, which is secure.

The area is safe, but far from most of the restaurants and activities we discuss on this forum. You'll be closer to Charlotte Amalie than anything.

Think about how you envision your vacation. If you'll spend lots of time in and around your villa, enjoying the home, wonferful pool and view, this is a great spot. If you are the type to want to go out each night, I wouldn't take this one. It is a haul from everything. I don't know the road is going into this villa at night.

What will you be afraid of...animals or people....or just darkness?

Here is a map showing where it is on the island (courtesy of McLaughlin Anderson villas). Looking at the map, most of the activity takes place in Charlotte Amalie or in Red Hook (far right). I usually stay in Peterborg area (peninsula above Megans Bay) and I always feel like that drive is about as far as I want to go if I am going to Red Hook alot. I would imagine that if I was staying at Rockworks, I would't venture past mid-island much and I would get to know the more central restaurants better.

This appeals to me since I am always looking to get to know a new part of the island. If yo uare a first-times, you may want something a little more centered around the rest of the visitors.

Also, if you have never been to STT, the map shows highway numbers. Those are nothing more than 2 lane roads (1 lane each way) and many are narrow and run alongside the mountain...so don't be fooled by the highway number into thinking these are really efficient highways that will whiz you around.

Kat,

Send me your email address if you'd like information on Rockworks. The address associated with your screen name didn't work. We stayed there a couple of years ago.

Would you mind copying me on your email please, so I can get your impression of Rockworks and the location?

We just returned from Rockworks about a month ago. Everything was exactly as you see (If not better) We had a great stay and Sherry was a doll (She maintains Rockworks). We did have to venture out each day - usually to the other end of the island but it was nice coming home to our quite villa.

I highly recommend it.

TammyC- Can you please describe the road to the villa and night navigation? Is the road lit at night?

The navigation at night was a treat - There are no lights to guide your way. As a matter of fact we arrived the night of miracle on main street, but decided not to venture out too far till we knew the lay of the land so we missed it. (By the time we got in it was already getting dark)

But very cool place and very secluded.

Tammy, We just need something small so we have rented Stone Cottage which is on the same property as Rockworks. The rental agent suggested we rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle and I am wondering if a 4-wheel drive vehicle is really needed to get to Rockworks/Stone Cottage. Any comments you can give regarding the property and location would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
