Good Day Everyone,
We are very excited to be taking our first Bare boat sailing cruise from St Thomas to St John this summer.
Any tips on the sail/motor from Charlotte Amalie to Maho Bay would be appreciated. Also looking for any ideas or advice for day sailing trips from Maho Bay to other St John bays with mooring fields.

Cheers!

Not sure exactly what you are after but I would go to Francis Bay, around the bend to Leinster then come down the other side to Big and Little Lamshur Bays. Remember it is tough to take on provisions or water in St. Johns. You can always pull into Sopers Hole across form Leinster.

Just remember to clear Customs and Immigration if you pull into Sopers Hole as you will be in the BVI's at that point - and you must clear back in at Cruz Bay when re-entering the USVI.

If you "motor" to Maho should take about 1 hour +/- from CA depending on speed. You will probably be given, I am sure a map of where you can moor overnight (remember you need to pay 🙂 )

If You are leaving Charlotte Amalie and going directly to Maho motoring a sailboat it will be about 2-2.5 hours.
It would be easier to buy water if you need it in Red Hook than going to the BVI just for that reason alone.
Your charter company will give you a very good briefing and charts.
Buying a cruising guide book is a good investment and can be used for years.
Don't be in a hurry about the traveling times - always allow more than less and enjoy the trip along the way.

Just noticed I said 1 hour - oops meant to say 2 hours +/- 🙂

Thanks Rick
We are basically going to pick up a mooring at a number of St John bays for the night.
Will be at Maho mostly and by some provisions at their store as well as eat at their restaurant. Any tricky parts of the sail/motor from Charlotte Amalie to Maho? How about that beat into Drakes to get to water Lemon?

Take the south cut at Current Cut /// Gr.St. James ---------- CA -to- Maho --- then the inside cut at Henley Key ------------ and inside all the buoys at Johnson Reef
Very short beat Mary Point to Leinster - go for speed rather than pinching
There are no Overnite moorings if you go from Leinster through Flanagan Passage to Hurricane Hole.
