Just wondering if anyone knows if the Sapphire Beach restaurant is open. I that it was closed for a while, but also heard rumors that it might be opening back up.

The bar and the rest are open. The rest is open for lunch but will open for dinner. Also the Sunday beach party is on.

We just returned from Sapphire. The Beach Bar is open, Grapevine is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it stays open till 12 midnight. They have some pretty good food up there.

The Sunday beach party runs from 3-6 pm. It's attended by a large number of locals and people that are staying at Sapphire. They had a GREAT group. I don't know they're name, but believe it or not I saw some white men dancing. It was a great time and I wish they made it later then 6. When 6 came around, everybody was out of there and must of went somewhere else.

They also have the bar open on the beach and there's a small store for snacks, beer, milk and things like that if you don't want to venture out.

In general, Sapphire is up and running.

"...but believe it or not I saw some white men dancing..."

Connie, please assure me that you really didn't mean to say that?

Connie, you responded, "Yes STT...I meant to say that and it was suppose to be funny because it was funny...even my husband dances like "that"...I'm alot of people, especially women, know what I'm talking about."

I'm still not sure what you mean and still find your comment rather offensive. What is "dancing like THAT?" And what does it have to do with white men? I surely must be missing something. Cheers!

STT...too bad you don't have a sense of humor on this because I'm sure alot of people "got" it. It's a joke!!! It has nothing to do with where your mind may be going with the islanders being there. And if that's what you're thinking, then actually I'm offended that you would even go there.

Try googleing "white men can't dance".

Just what do you find so offensive? Even Islander "got" it.

Go have a few bushwackers and then maybe you'll laugh.

Connie, too bad you don't have a sense of funny. Very silly comment especially since this white guy happens to have a bit of rythm.

Good for you Promo, glad you can dance....but alot of the guys that day couldn't. They were still having a good time and that's the most important thing. That music was so good that even my husband was dancing.

Lighten up.

We will all now lighten up because Connie admonishes us to do so. Trust you are paying attention, Promoguy! Oh, I forgot that I have to drink a few Bushwhackers in order to find some sense of humour. I'll file that somewhere, and thanks so much for the recommendation, Connie.

I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit here, Connie, and I hope your next visits will be as much fun! Cheers!

Gosh - I guess I need some Bushwhackers too, since I found the reference offensive as well. There are numerous jokes about men who can't dance, but I've never seen it referenced by race before.

Joanne, again, I didn't mean anything offensive. It was a joke and I wish that some people would just take it that way and not make it into anything racial. Check out Islanders Video and maybe you'll understand where I was coming from.

ok ok ding ding ding... connie im being forced to give you a standing 8 count... what you said can and was perceived as racially offensive. simply put, "politically incorrect". I dint think you meant it that way and have always read and your comments and you genuinely seem to be a kind and helpful blogger... suffice to say "sorry folks ,didnt mean to offend" and i believe all will be forgotten 🙂

STT Resident & Joanne, there is a stereotype that white men can't dance, don't have rhythm.

The link posted earlier is a commercial for Red Stripe beer that was shown on US Television. If you didn't watch the clip, it is based on the stereotype. Here it is again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7tRCfSuMTY.

Another clip: http://www.thedailytube.com/video/5188/white-athletes-cant-dance-either. This one is of victory dances in sports; the newscaster making comments about the dancing.

Here is an article about the stereotype: http://www.popmatters.com/columns/stephens/050223.shtml.

Thanks for the laugh Islander and the confirmation that Connie was not being "politically incorrect". It's out there already.

Chill every body. It was a JOKE.

Isn't there a movie called "White men can't Jump"? I believe so!
Connie is right ON! White men can't dance! 🙂 She's (Connie) got my vote!

Islander, Thanx for your support!
